Are the sookey female and the young male looking more and more like a breeding-pair? Still unsure. But the male has been vocalising much more.
Emu World is in a state of suspension, as the emus and all other critters wait for autumn rains. Things will turn ugly if there is no fresh grass --...
The only emus I've ever seen by moonlight was Eric and one of his clutches, just short of dawn, under a big bright moon.
Two days ago, though, Sookey Female and her consort spent an hour vocalising in the house-clearing, in the moon light.
Otherwise, it seems more and more as though they will...
The 'breeding-pair' here either are or are not showing early signs of being a breeding-pair.
I notice that the (young) male is vocalising much more, even before dawn (while still at the roost), which is quite unusual.
Otherwise, the three 'home team' birds -- the breeding-pair and the other...
The 'breeding-pair' here may or may not be exhibiting breeding-pair behaviors. But it is autumn. And the young male has been following the young female around since last spring.

The sookey home-team female and the male that has been following her around are beginning to look like a breeding-pair.
The odds aren't high; but if this pair chooses to mate and breed right here, we may get to observe it all. It would be only the third time in 15 years.

Here is Toosh Toosh with his clutch of five. This getting-about-in-a-gaggle is standard.
[Two of these chicks, now young adult females...
This photo tells a story of the nature of the project -- 'Planet Rothschildi.'
This is Felicity Emu, one of the three 'original' chicks of Eric's that I tamed in 2008. For years after she 'went bush,' she would turn up in spring for the little yellow flowers (Cape Weed). Felicity luuurvs little...
This is a White-Naped Honey Eater at the bird bath, which has been full of fresh water dawn to dusk for ten years.
Why the Honey Eater? It's one of the species that has disappeared from my garden over 15 years of observations.
Every year there are fewer birds.
sigh I'm not getting any younger. Here is some stuff from the archive:
can you guess what the chairs are for? This is Eric and his nine chicks (with a home-team female just behind). The chairs allow you to gauge their growth, as I can't actually handle the chicks here. You put the chairs out...
Are they the two you posted the video of dancing the other day?
No, Pyxis. That clip is years old. I'm fortunate to have a half a dozen clips of emus dancing.
