    NY chicken lover!!!!

Good morning everyone! It looks dry out right one so I will run out and open the girls coop for the day. I am pretty sure that at least 3 of my hens have layer eggs but production levels are still low. I did get 11 eggs in 6 days from the 3 ladies. 2 of my amaericaunas have not started yet.. My...

So doesn't look like the chickens have a preferred time to lay eggs. Hopefully they will be ok with me only getting them twice a day. Before and after work 12 hours apart. Buttons uhgh? And wait, you trimmed her beak? Can you take a picture of that? Was there something wrong with it or was it...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I found egg number 2 this afternoon but this time not in a nesting box but rather in the furthest corner from the coop door. I actually could not even see it when I opened the door but thought I would climb in and check anyhow because it looked like someone dug a hole in the straw. Sure enough...

Exciting news is my coop! We had our very first egg yesterday 9/20/2014. It wasn't there in the morning when I went to let them out but it was there in the afternoon. That got me thinking.....what time do your chickens lay their eggs and when do you find its best to collect them? I am hoping to...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

So when I was feeding the chickens I noticed "the smell" of chickens in the air. I move the tractor daily (morning and night). It rained a lot yesterday and last nights so I am wondering how much that has to do with it. I am a bit worried that this will get worse once I stop moving the chickens...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh...here is the latest on my coop It still needs to get painted and a roof but they are mostly done with it. They sent me pictures today. It is supposed to be 8x6 on the outside but its not tall enough to stand up in (which that may be a pain in the Ar$$ later but we shall see.)

Rancher - I don't really know you BUT...You and your DW are in my thoughts. I think you must do what you think is best for you and your situation but I agree that with everyone here that it may be good for you mental health to maintain your hobby even if at a smaller scale. Best wishes and...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh dear - I did not mean to start this lengthy of a discussion =). It seems there are a lot of ways to "skin the cat" or "feed the chicks" for that matter. I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments and ideas/opinions. For now I will try to go without grit since they are outside on the lawn...
