Speaking of worming, I spent several hours yesterday catching and orally dosing my chickens with 1/2 ml Ivomec. I lost a hen Monday night to what I believe was worms. She had been having watery diarrhea and then laid two shelless eggs. I finally caught her Monday night and cleaned her butt...

BobBry - Your hens are so healthy and fluffy looking. My girls are all bald on back because of the rooster. You have beautiful birds and a very nice secure looking set up for them. Love the morning glories covering the coop and run and making it all shady for them. Looks like you have happy...

Do your chickens have access to the road? Maybe she got hit by a car. I also have never had a predator get into my coop or run. It's easiest to build it predator proof to begin with than to try to make it so after the fact, I think. I did lots of reading and research before building and so...

Daron - My heart is aching for you, your family and little Micah. God doesn't make mistakes, so there is a lesson and a blessing to be found somewhere in all of this. I will continue to pray for strength, peace and acceptance for all of you. Quote: Thanks DOE, that's good to know since...

Keyt - Look in the breed section of BYC under Plymouth Rock and you'll find Barred Rocks. Don't know what your hen is, but she looks like one of my EEs. I just Googled Partridge Rock and found lots of pictures of hens that look just like yours.

Hi Lucy. Welcome to the MI thread. I live close to you in Clay Townhip on the border of Algonac. I don't have bees, but RaZ in Garden City does and he's a wonderful educator. I'm sure he'll pop up and answer your post soon.

I took three of my roosters to Brown's Processing in Washington at 27 Mile and Van Dyke. It looks like it would have been just as far for you, about 94 miles round trip from Garden City to them. They also did my three birds in an hour since I had driven so far and it cost me $2 per bird. Very...

No. My chickens free range the yard all day. They like to hang out under the deck and poop all over it. I don't know how old your son is, but the only health issue would be if he tries to eat their poop!

I'm in St.Clair County. Algonac, to be exact. I have fertile eggs, but nothing pure, just mutts. Mixes of EE's, BR's, ISA Browns and BCM's. PM me if you're interested. As long as I'm posting I'd like to caution everyone about selling or giving away roosters on Craigslist. I know you...

In a last ditch effort before I look for someone in the area who processes chickens, I thought I would post these two 5 1/2 month old cockerels for free to anyone on BYC. One is pure Barred Rock and the other is Barred Rock x French Black Copper Marans. The cross is a very handsome boy with...

Taprock - Loved the story of Peep. It's great to teach kids about learning to be brave, especially those who are timid or bullied. I'm sure you'll get lots of positive reaction to it. Also love the illustrations! You do great work!! Good luck with it.

We didn't have a milk chute but our neighbors did. I grew up in Frankenmuth, very small town back then and not the tourist trap it is now. The milkman used to just walk right in the house and put the milk in the refrigerator! "Hey Ed, how's it going?" He'd ring the bell and walk right in. No...
