Best part was that the neighbors up the road from me on the other side had a clear view of me blasting away at a tree and every time I took a shot they screamed that they surrendered! HAHAHAHA!

Lots of "fun stuff" the last few days...
~ my loving children gave me a bug that made me think I was dying and had me...well, nevermind I won't go into details..![]()
~ my broody silkie is still sitting strong and after candling the eggs again I think I might let her keep them because they don't seem to be fried like I thought they were from the heat. However she has pooped all over them...not sure what to do about that?![]()
~ last night I was tending to the garden when it was about dusk (but still very light out) and my hens started "bagoking"...no biggy, they do that. I didn't even look up. Then I heard my speckled sussex rooster bagocking...I LOOKED UP. (he never does that, it's beyond him to sound like a pansy lol) My chicks who are in the remodelled coop-in-progress were plastered to the farthest spot in the x-pen runs as they could possibly be and everyone else was acting like the sky was falling! I started running down the hill from the garden to the coops when I saw something run behind the rabbit barn and I ran that way and heard it running up the oak trees...a RACCOON!! ARGH!!Soooooo....(mooohooohahahaha) I went all Annie Oakly on it.
Got my 22G and blasted away into the tree...then realizing there was a FAMILY of them! Big HUGE momma and 3 football sized babies. So I ran to the coop and said "Come with me if you want to live"...wait, scratch that, wrong movie...I ran into the house and got more ammo and took care of them. Well, one disapeared into the tree after I shot it but I'm pretty sure I got it. I've got my live trap set now. None of my birds were injured thanks to the combined bagocking of every chicken on the farm! Best part was that the neighbors up the road from me on the other side had a clear view of me blasting away at a tree and every time I took a shot they screamed that they surrendered! HAHAHAHA!![]()
All my rabbits made it through the heat just fine too...even got some cleaning done in the barn tonight since it cooled down so nice out.![]()
I'm sorry Yeti isn't doing well. I hope she comes around and makes it.I think I have caught up on reading. Didn't comment since some was back a ways. We are home from camping. It was a good week. I think the kids spent most of the week in the river staying cool. My DH says he has gained a bunch because our food was so good - six families and we all cooked together.
I came home to find Yeti the blind Silkie upside down in the coop. I thought she was dead but she wasn't. Very week and sleepy. I think it is either just more problems showing up from her blindness or dehydration. She hardly drinking anything. So she is in a box in the house. The only extra I am doing for her is giving her water with an eyedropper. She is sitting better this morning and fighting to keep her beak closed. I can't imagine she will survive but you never know.
Good morning Michigan,
It is quite pleasant here and a welcome relief from the heat. I'm sure it will warm up later but not as hot as last week.
I tossed the broody Uggo from the nest box this morning. She isn't sitting on anything since I take the eggs, but she insists on staying on the nest.
Hi Lucy,Hi Everyone,
I live in Shelby Township Michigan and was wondering if anyone knew of a bee keeper locally that I could go visit and learn from? I'm willing to pay for the lesson and Q & A. I'd love to start bee keeping and have read a book on it and researched via the internet but am not confident enough.I know of some on the West side of the state but was looking for someone more locally.
Thanks for any informtion you can give me.
Lucy
Well aren't you nice!Hi Lucy. Welcome to the MI thread. I live close to you in Clay Townhip on the border of Algonac. I don't have bees, but RaZ in Garden City does and he's a wonderful educator. I'm sure he'll pop up and answer your post soon.
