Isn't it about time for Daron to post some emu pictures?

My new BSLs are laying now. One lays a light tan egg that looks more pink and the other is nearly white. Getting first eggs is always a thrill.

You can make jelly, jams, pies, syrup and wine from choke cherries. I also like the spring honey from bees who visit the choke cherry blossoms.

I am not an instigator. I merely commented on a thread originally posted by one of my own people. My kitchen stinks of dill, garlic and spices. I'm sure that some pickle-pusses will object. At least I'm not cooking sauerkraut or kim chi.

At the risk of offending people I only have this to say. I don't think my pickle recipe is going to work.

I just went out to check on the birds. The mallard drake now has four (4) hens around him. Two more girls have flown into the yard.

I just went out with some frozen peas and there are now four (4) mallard hens in the run! Yea, ducks! Party at my house.

Yesterday, one of the mallard hens flew away. I had expected this with all of the ducks who decided to stay here in my yard. The poor drake was distressed that one of his girls was gone but he still had one girl left that he could protect. Not 10 minutes ago, a mallard hen flew into the yard...

The pink egg is either from one of the 24 week old BSLs or the Uggo who went broody on me. The size (45 grams) suggest the Uggo, but both her and the BSL were in the nest box at the same time. It's an egg hunt mystery.

I'm getting an egg from one of the new girls that is a light cream colour that looks more pink than any other colour I can describe. Whoda thunk Oester eggs occur naturally?

This reminded me of a camping trip a few years back. My buddy said that he would bring 10-15 cord of firewood. He showed up with 10 bundles of slabwood, then argued that they were full cords. BTW a full cord of wood measures 4' wide x 4' tall x 8 ' long. Face cords are 16" x 4' tall x 8'...

Actually several did. I have my name as inventor or co-inventor of 13 patents.

First step is to get a bound notebook and write down what your idea is. Date it and even write the time that you wrote is down. I was advised to use different colour inks on the same page to reduce the chance of your idea being copied. Getting a patent is time consuming and expensive. All of...

I have been fortunate that I've been able to visit the homes and chickens of several BYCers. No matter what the set-up, the care and welfare of the birds is obvious.

I don't mean to diminish any biosecurity concerns. I also don't get too distressed over what may be a potential risk when it comes to expanding my flock. My current group has come from at least 5 different sources over the last 2 years. Plus, other BYCers have brought birds here for swapping...

Just back from helping out the nice old couple behind me. It seems that their labs were "playing" with the sprinkler on the newly sodded area of the backyard and caused a mini flood that washed a ton of soil into their neighbors driveway. Two full grown labs had dug a mud hole knee deep and...

Last year, a 25 pound box of roasted peanuts was $25, this year it is up to $37. Yikes! Going to try to make pickles. An 1/8 (maybe 1/6) bushel was only $5. Now to round up my jars...

"Stress induced by fright or excitement can cause a hen to expel an egg before the shell id finished. A nutritional deficiency, especially of vitamin D or calcium, can cause soft shells. A laying hen's calcium needs are increased by age and by warm weather (when hens eat less and therefore get...

Point taken. And a good argument. Do you think it applies to "guests" who harvest information from this or other sites? And one other thing to consider...Has what I've posted actually been a true statement or something that I've fabricated just to see how the trolls react?
