Thanks to all for their kind condolences. My nephew, Todd, is being escorted home by his twin brother, Jordan, who was also serving on Afghanistan. And my twins ,who are serving in the Navy , have been given leave to come home for the memorial. We will be together to lean on each other. Thanks to everyone for their prayers.

I'm getting an egg from one of the new girls that is a light cream colour that looks more pink than any other colour I can describe.

Whoda thunk Oester eggs occur naturally?

RaZ, I get a pink egg from one of my Bantu Cochin mutts, and a green from her sister!. When the brats aren't broody that is...
The pink egg is either from one of the 24 week old BSLs or the Uggo who went broody on me. The size (45 grams) suggest the Uggo, but both her and the BSL were in the nest box at the same time.

It's an egg hunt mystery.

Im hot, grimy, sweat hanging off my face...way beyond glowing- Im a frickin neon sign- but I managed to bury a four foot wide wire fence down flat against the privacy fence side of the pen- with wire lacing it to the vertical chicken wire that we attached to the privacy fence then buried.

Mother nature thought she would cool me off while I was in the middle of laying the wire and burying it- and started pouring rain. Only lasted until I was done. Im scratched up in multiple places- but soaking wet sitting in front of a fan.. very nice.

The entire time I was putting down the wire fence, the stupid neighbor dog was pointblank lined up with me face to face, only a privacy fence between us..and he whined, and pawed at the fence continually. I must have verbally murdered him six times- had no effect on him.

I spoke with the neighbor at about ten thirty this morning, he came over to see if my husband had any beer- and I told him his dog was digging up under the fence and going to get my rabbits (large foxhound dog)...come on, guess how he 'fixed' the problem...

got your guess?

He pulled a half-chewed mattress over the trench made by the dog.

Spent the afternoon doing the pre-Back-to-School shoveling out of the dungeons... I mean kids' rooms. Now I have to go clean the hall from the mess I made cleaning the kids's rooms. Why is that always the case? Our kids don't even have that much stuff, but I still end up with three trash bags full of stuff for GoodWill and the dumpster.

Mine are old enough that I can force...I mean, um, coerce, them into doing that themselves....however, my fourteen year old carried out three bags of clothes for the goodwill- I went through them out of curiosity and pulled out three pairs of my shorts, two of my shirts, about five nice shirts of hers that she got for her birthday in March barely worn, and two that still had tags on them, and three perfectly good hoodies that she will want come cool weather. Much easier to toss clothes in a bag than to wash/dry/hang them up.

Yesterday, one of the mallard hens flew away. I had expected this with all of the ducks who decided to stay here in my yard.
The poor drake was distressed that one of his girls was gone but he still had one girl left that he could protect.

Not 10 minutes ago, a mallard hen flew into the yard. I'm guessing that it was the missing girl, but she is noticeably bigger than the remaining hen, so it might be another bird.

In any case, I'm glad that the wild ducks like coming here for a visit.
