Honestly, they've shaped up beautifully and I would have a difficult time picking. #29 and #31 I would cull, due to poor comb type, some colour imbalance, and a markedly shallow chest, but between #50, #27, and #38 it would be a close race. The last two are a tad dark to my eye and seem like...

This is about what I look for in terms of feather tightness. I'm a bit picky about that in my own flock since I find it's important for breed character. Right now I have too many females with cochin floof so I'm trying to improve that with males that have a touch of leghorn type. It seems to be...

Nice looking cockerel! His feathering seems a bit overly fluffy in the rear, and he could use some more substance in his chest, but he's young so he may look less awkward with time. Decent back. His colouring would be better if it were more even, it gets quite bright in the hackle. Generally...

Absolutely! I'd love to see your birds.

Any news from Chantecler owners on here? Breeding season is almost at an end for me, I've hatched about 15 chicks so far from the two trios I kept back to hatch from. Not much, but my birds have come a long way from the lone trio I had back a few years.

I believe that's why I lost this bird as well. She was in a breeding pen all spring/summer, so when she was released, she wandered away from the flock. This line of Chanteclers needs a bit of work on being range wary—a few generations of free-ranging brooder stock should do it.

Unfortunately, one of my original Buff Chantecler bantam hens went missing the other day, most likely to a fox. I have about 7 birds growing out from her eggs, some of which are shaping up quite nicely. I think their facial structure is an improvement on their father, and their feathering is an...

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. I have several more data points I would like to add, and some experiments to back those up; unfortunately I do not have the infrastructure to do so. Perhaps over the fall, when I don't have full breeding pens. It's a work in progress.

Decent topline on that first cockerel so far. He has a bit of almost beard-like feathering on his face, a trait I have also noted in some of my former Partridge hens. I will be quite interested in seeing how they turn out, especially the pullets as they look rather light at the moment.

I had a decent year with my buff chantecler bantams. I hatched around ten birds, seven from a cockerel I produced last year and an original hen, and three from the other two birds of my original trio. Unfortunately, I lost one of the latter group to a freak accident. The others are growing out...

That seems reasonable. I believe standard weight is 7.5 lbs for a cockerel, but 15 weeks is quite young.

I came across this image yesterday and thought I'd share. The bird is Jim Fegan's line; image not by me. What an incredible bird.

He's still pretty decent. Nice birds. :thumbsup I have been eyeing some LF White stock from a local breeder. I shouldn't—but one can dream, right?

ABA recognized, yes. There aren't enough qualifying LF Buff breeders to make a bid for recognition to the APA. I would try to help out, but with my current situation there is no way I can travel to the meets to exhibit birds.

They're quite nice! It's a bit early to tell, Chanteclers take so long to fill out, but I like the long backs I am seeing and the big frames.

The Buff Chantecler bantam has been accepted by the ABA! It can now compete with all other birds in shows.
