For anyone who was interested in the crele Chantecler project I posted about quite a while back...it's not happening. The cock became insanely aggressive, and it's looking like he's not even fertile...he's been tried, convicted, and is scheduled to meet the executioner on Saturday....

Anybody ever have a Chanty cock bird "guard" eggs??? Mine isn't setting like a hen, and is normally VERY sweet, but he gets mad at me when I collect eggs, even goes so far as to peck AND try to spur my arm when I reach into the nest box!! I have to use a gallon jug to block him (he started...

Congrats! What color variety are the hens you will be breeding the crele cock to? Is he brown or duckwing based?
I have partridge pullets. He came out of partridge x partridge breeding, and the breeder had never had any others like him. Technically I suppose he is a barred partridge...

(Next to a d'Uccle egg for size/color comparison)
Perfect timing, because they are moving in with their sugar-daddy next week:

I got buff and partridge from Ideal about two years ago. They took a long time to mature. Mine took at least two months longer than all the other breeds. Chanteclers have a reputation for slow maturing. Mine were very small too.
congrats on the eggs!!
You mean they stayed small...
Can anybody with partridge Chants from Ideal tell me at what rate they matured?? Someone local here got a shipment of them, and we've had them about 3-4 weeks now, man are they TINY...Ideal doesn't list bantam Chants on their lists anywhere or we'd be inclined to think they were bantams....???

Oh my GOOD LORD but that Roo is beautiful. Were you able to establish color and type with him?
Thanks! I haven't gotten to breed him yet. The eggs for his future girlfriends are in the incubator right now...got a LONG wait ahead...but in the meantime he's having fun playing with the...
Hey all - I got some new pics of my crele boy today, and I'd like some honest opinions on his type. I know the judge at the show said he was a really nice bird, but I'd like opinions from breeders too, cuz I REALLY don't know...thanks!
He's a little fluffed up in this one...
