Bruce, I have well over 200 hens and right now have about 10-15 who are broody - the recent warm temperatures upped the tally. We generally have plenty of eggs until summer hits and the temperatures are much higher then they really start getting broody. In Feb/March, I was hoping for a broody...
"I've heard that partridges are fairly broody and make excellent mothers. Has this been your experience?"
- Broodiness is definitely a tendency but some of ours never go broody.
"How are they in a mixed flock setting?"
I only have Partridge Chantecler, Standard Bronze Turkeys and a few...
"Seeing as I live right near where the partridge was created I of course have to have some :) I love the original chantecler as well. "
Check out the Glenbow museum in the Timms archives - they have draft documents Timms wrote about the acceptance of the Partridge to the APA and Dr Wilkinson...
Hey all, I posted an article on the Partridge Chantecler https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/partridge-chantecler-a-cold-hardy-dual-purpose-breed.73857/
You can also find this on our website with more pictures: http://www.oldtime.farm/chantecler.html
Yes. In the following, mind the "must" vs the "should" as far as what will be required vs recommended. The program is primarily focused on protecting industrial production.

Karen,
You can give me a call ... mornings are best, it would be easier to explain on the phone. I am not sure who you talked to but there are not many individuals with NPIP in PA.
It was intimidating as PA is much more stringent than other states about some aspects, but Dr Hanshaw and the...
What variety are they supposed to be? I have Partridge and they are much darker & the combs are not cushion (if I was looking at the pictures correctly). Mine are great dual purpose birds and the roosters have all be very docile except one that was yummy. Mine have been easy to raise but they...
I am not so sure that the correct Chantie breast looks Cornish to me. I have one male that looks quite cornish and he just does not look "right" - not elegant enough? The breast should be full but not as compact as the Cornish.
I still do not understand the "gathered more to the center of...
Here are a few things to consider ...
I have found that keeping roosters with the hens and allowing them places to run for cover has avoided aerial predation on our farm (we have alot of hawks that fly right over the coops.)
The combs and body type are a work in progress in all varieties...
If you mean comb and body type, they should. The comb genetics are not related to color. Body shape (or "type") should come through as well. I crossed our Partridge with some old black Jersey Giant or Java hens (supposed to be Jersey Giant but are not giant by any means, lol) to test the comb...
John,
I think the brown for sure but whether the v on the heads makes any difference or not, I do not know yet. The light color chests were almost all male and the darker chests were females. It will be interesting to see what this year brings. I am just collecting now to set this weekend...
