I have 1 buff chantecler. She is about 3 yrs old and still lays ok (3-4 a week) when she isn't broody. Unfortunately she has been broody most of the summer, she can't seem to get eggs to hatch and won't adopt either. Any ideas how to stop her or will she give it up eventually? I've tried broody...
He is supposed to be a jap bantam but he is to big. 2lbs or more. Thows blue no matter what color the hen is. I think I'll repeat this breeding soon. I only have one chantecler hen (a rescue).
I got a better pic of my cross breed. Mom is a buff chantecler. This is dad.
This is her. I'm trying for the cold hearty traits with the blue color. I think it worked. She appears to have gotten alot of the chantecler. I will have to repeat the breeding to see if it is consistent.
Well I hate to interrupt this debate but I hatched this little one about 3 months ago and would like an opinion. The mom is a buff chantecler and the roo was a splash bantam. I know she is a mutt but I think she got alot of the mom. That is a leghorn from the same hatch next to her.Aside from...
I use a heated coop because we have extended periods where 0 F is the high. The biggest problem is you CAN"T lose power during cold snaps. If the birds aren't acclimated the sudden cold would be very bad. If power outages are an issue in your area a generator is a good idea.
Today I set 6 EE x Lavender Am eggs under my Buff Chantecler. She is insisting on hatching so I might as well. I guess we will see if she is a good mama.
For the last week my Buff Chantecler has been trying to go broody. Today she won. I couldn't get to the eggs so I moved her( box and all) over to the duck house. It's much quieter there. She is the first broody hen I've had to deal with. Is it common behavior for this breed or has it been bred...
I just hatched my first buff chantecler x Wellsummer( I think) chick. I got a hen as a rescue about a month ago and threw a few eggs in the bator. I don't have a matching roo for her but am excited to add her cold hardy traits to my project flock.
