MOST hatcheries are not concerned with the various standards emphasized by the APA for the different breeds. They simply focus on egg production. So certain details about the breeds are often ignored...such as eye color, leg color, etc.

Since your birds are from my stock, ChicwannaB...I can say it will be a few/several more weeks before you get eggies. Just remember...good things come to those who wait. Any hens from non-hatchery stock will take several weeks longer to lay than the typical production type hatchery...
If anyone is close to the Michigan thumb and needs one, I have a REALLY nice buff cockerel available. My rooster (his father) is directly from Bob Rennolet and my hens are from Mike Gilbert. If I was "into" showing, I wouldn't hesitate to take this boy to a show. He's around 18 weeks...

Got any pics? It's not uncommon to hatch varying "shades" with the partridge. A lot of breeders will cull the lighter colored birds unless they don't have any better birds to work with. You want the darkest ones for your breeding pen, but don't sacrifice the lacing for it. A lot of...

Awww...thanks ChicwannaB. I felt like I could just talk to you all day. If time had been of no essence to either of us, we probably would have stood right there until dark.
With my buff chicks, another telltale sign of a cockerel is the stance. When they're young , the cockerels tend to stand more "at attention" with their tails held more upright. The pullets seem to be more relaxed. At least that's what I've learned from my own stock.

I'll blushingly answer that for Stacykins...she hatched her buff chicks from my Chanty eggs.
And Stacykins...I'm going to bet that the chick in the second pic is a roo.
Stacykins...it won't be long until you know their sex for certain. 2 of my buffs that hatched on March 19th started crowing at 10 weeks old. And luckily, I had already picked one out as a cull already, so I'm happy that it's a roo.
Beautiful chicks, CFof5! I sure wish I could get my hands on some whites.
Here's a few buffs from my last hatch. I'm really liking how their color and type is coming along. This is such an enjoyable breed to work with.
I'm shipping some buff eggs to Alaska on Saturday...I sure hope that lady has a good hatch, too. I'll be sending several extras plus extra special packing for such a long trip.
Of course, Stacy...you know it's illegal to talk about new chicks without posting pics, right?

Awesome awesome awesome!!!!! Congrats to you! Good job with the incubation! You deserve a big kudos yourself!!!! I was looking at some of my youngsters today and was VERY happy with how their buff color is coming in. They're a nice even buff throughout their bodies...very pretty.

If the eggs were more on the white side...I don't think that's normal. At least the ones I had didn't lay anything near a white-ish-kindof egg. Do you know where the breeding stock (that produced your eggs) came from? That might help explain.

That's too funny. Sorry to hear of your "troubles" CC. None of my girls have even thought about going broody on me yet. I sure hope they don't anytime soon.
