Today I got two eggs... Very unsual because my chickens haven't laid all winter and they laid two eggs on a clowdy day, and early January the daylights not increasing. They're going into year three and I don't remember any of them laying this early...

Oh boy, I absolutely hate it! I live in the suburbs, and people think that just because they listen to country music (not even the real stuff), wear cowboy hats/boots, and/or drive a truck, they are "country" material. They brag about how country they are, how they want to move out to the...

When I got my flock of chickens two years ago, I bought two-week old chicks which included five speckled sussex and five Buff Orpingtons. At about eight weeks of age, I kept three Buff Orpingtons and two speckled sussex for myself, and sold the rest to a friend. Two years later, I'm no longer...

Has anyone else in the area had problems with pine shavings? In the winter I couldn't find them anywhere and had to go with aspen shavings which are a bit more costly, but worked alright. Today I bought Irving's pine shaving which are usually the best type, but I opened the bag and it's legit...

I thought she was gonna die, and I still can't rule that out, but she's doing way better. She's still a bit out of it, but she goes out with to other hens and eats and drinks now

I've had my chickens for a year and a half and Im having my first broody hen today. I thought buff orpingtons and speckled Sussex were somewhat often broody, so I was a bit surprised it took so long. It's funny though how he chicken puffs up when I open the nesting box, I guess that's to protect...

Things aren't going well for my chicken who was attacked by a fox Friday. She still lays in the corner all day and night and isn't injured. Now she's resisting when I try to force her to drink, so she might just die. The chicken appears to be in a trance, I'll stick a handful of food in it's...

I've had chickens for over a year and have never had fox problems. I just found out that the lady with a huge flock of guineas about 600 meters down got rid of her whole flock recently, which were always easy pickings since they were a huge free range flock. The fox probably decided to move on...

I gave her Gatorade. The chicken hasn't moved all day and I give it water by dipping the beak in the Gatorade, she drinks it, then I lift her head up and she swallows. Definitely an interesting process... If the chicken doesn't die, I will start antibiotics, which I have in hand but have never...

My chicken is still alive, but definitely in shock. She won't move at all. So far I locked her in the coop alone, put a pan of water next to her, and put her favorite treat next to her (corn). She wouldn't drink voluntarily, but I dipped her beak in the water and she drank when I would do that...

Today my chickens were out and I was sitting by the window, then heard a bunch of ruckus. I looked out the window and saw a fox with one of chickens in it's mouth. I grabbed the gun and chased down the fox through the woods in my socks and lost it. Then I searched around more and found my...

I work at a produce market and I take home some of the slightly tainted veggies and fruit that normally gets thrown out and feed it to the chickens. They love it and it cuts down my feed costs lot. It's a shame a lot of this gets thrown out, and it's not just us, it happens everywhere at all...

What's your chicken's favorite food/treat? Corn is the favorite for mine, they will go nuts for it and absolutely devour it, leaving not a single kernel. I put out a whole box of goodies this morning and every chicken went for the corn first. What does everyone else's chickens like the most?

Completely off topic, I just didn't know where to ask this one. Anyway, the picture sucks, but I noticed an old bird fountain near my property line. This has a solid field stone base that's rounded and is about 3 feet high, narrowing as it goes up. The bird bath top doesn't look original so...

Yea those tomatoes and peppers would be completely dead by tomorrow if your greenhouse isn't heated. Minimum temperature for that stuff is like 50 degrees I believe

Depends what you planted. If it's warm weather stuff like tomatoes I would definetely bring them inside. The stuff in my garden is cool weather stuff like peas, carrots, beets, radishes, onions, lettuce. They can handle low temperatures and "light frost", so if it was like 30 degrees I wouldn't...

Right now it's 65 degrees and when I wake up tomorrow it's supposed to be 24. What's up with that? I'm sure the rest of Pennsylvania is gonna feel this odd temperature drop off, I believe it's an all time low for April in my area. I guess I better get my garden covered with straw tonight because...

We don't raise deer, but we feed them in the winter so we get a lot. I work for a produce store so I take the tainted apples which would normally be thrown out and feed them to the deer. It's actually like at least 20 a day.

Deer vs chickens. For some reason I haven't had many of these encounters until recently. At first the deer were terrified of the chickens, but the chickens weren't afraid of the deer. You can see this in my poor quality pictures I took a few weeks ago. I guess the deer eventually realized the...
