I bought homemade soap from someone on this list two years ago, She raised chickens and turkeys. I can't remember who it was. She also had Silkies. I really want to get another order of soap. It was a special order that was designed to repel fleas on dogs and cure eczema. It worked wonderfully...

I find that setting the radio to classical music on low helps a great deal. I understand about the tree frogs. They are soooo high pitched. A couple of years ago I had an interesting chorus of frogs. I had group of deep voiced frogs and some medium voice and some tree peepers. They sounded like...

Mirrors. Go to the thrift store an buy up the mirrors and mount them facing the sky around your coop and their ranging area. The light flashes from them are disorienting to the hawks and they find somewhere else to fly. Personally I am thinking of getting a gazing ball and gluing tiny mirrors...

There are many skills being lost because our children are not taught some of the basic games that we grew up on. (I grew up in the '70s.) I played Bridge with my great aunt and uncle. I played Spades with my friends. I worked jigsaw puzzles with my mother and aunt. I played the sliding squares...

Did you ever play the card game Spades (a simplified version of Bridge)? Genetics are like Spades where their are genes that function like the Spade cards that can trump any other suit. In color genetics that would equate to Dominant White. Then their are genes like the Diamond cards which can...

Tip on force feeding. Had to do it last spring with some chicks. Found that using a wooden scewer (pointy end, you know the kind you make shish-ka-bobs with) to pry the beak open was gentler and more effective than my fingers squeezing them.

Well it is amusing but I think it would really work. If needed you could use some polyclay that you bake in the oven if you needed to make a cup for the stumps. Mold it over the stumps then work it slightly larger so you can pad it with moleskin.

Tell me something about the turkeys especially the Royal Palms. When I looked up the information on feeding them it said it took 75lbs of feed to get a turkey poult to butcher weight. Is that correct in your experience? I figure the Royal Palms are not quite that much since they are smaller.

Go pick up some wooden pallets for the goats to lay on so they don't have to lay on the wet ground. We haven't had the big rains here (TN) yet but according to the Farmers Almanac we are going to have an exceptionally wet winter. I have been digging French drains to channel the water away from...

But Apple dose support PDF's. I use them all the time. You need Adobe Acrobat to read them and it is available as free download at least as a read only. To create PDF's with it I think you have to have the paid version which I do have.

About those Microscopes. I would be interested in one of those too. You could also ask people on the sheep thread. I raise sheep and have wanted one for sometime now to do my own fecal test for the heamanocus contortus (sic) worm, commonly known as barberpole worm. They are vicious in the...

Try a Nigerian Dwarf or if she likes fuzzy things a Nigora (Nigerian/Angora cross). They are both good milk goats as well as being tiny and cute. Pygmies are cute but have enough muscle to jump a 4 foot fence! Myotonic goats (Wooden Leg, Faintering Goats) can be large or small and can't jump...
