So, I'm holding out hope that Deli Jr is a pure Delaware.. his dad was and I think I still had a Delaware hen in that pen when I collected the eggs for the broody that hatched him. Both of my Delawares were victims of raccoons last year and it would be something special if I had a replacement...

My boys sorted themselves out. Rico somehow got over into Romeo's pen and neither Romeo or his girls minded his presence. So he stays there although its not hiw I would have split them up. Cheeky is now the dominant roo in the other pen, but I may have to separate Deli Jr to the third coop if he...

Does it make sense that 3 roos from the same clutch would get along just fine in the run but not want to sleep in the same coop as eachother? My 3 boys have access to two coops and Rico is still sleeping up on the fence most nights. They were all in the same coop for awhile, but Deli Jr migrated...

Oh man, I have two buff orpingtons in my fridge right now. My friend got them as a straight run from Tactor Supply and they just got so mean, she had to thin her flock down to one roo and the BOs didnt make the cut. *thanks for the reminder to dig out the pressure cooker for these guys!

Also, Hi again from Beaver County... it's been awhile and I dont promise I'll do any better keeping up this time either. HOWEVER, I may be looking for some chicks come spring so I'm really going to try. @dheltzel are you still breeding the blue laying black sexlinks? I'm down to only one...

Do you have a Rural King nearby? A friend of mine sells her bunnies there, not sure how much they take as a commission.

Remind me what part of the state you are in, my daughter wants to make an earthbag Hobbit house in our backyard. And despite also stocking up on my own bags with the intention of sewing tote bags I'm sure I don't have the 200 or so bags we will need for her project

Just plan on making sure there is room to add more coops... that way you can keep more roosters and you don't have to worry about them fighting over the ladies. ;) I messed up guys... I booked a last minute trip with my friend to take the human kids to Kalahari... but I didnt realize it fell on...

We just purchased the stuff to set up a hot wire around our coops/runs, but haven't gotten to the point of setting it up yet. I'm sure I'll be asking here when I do.

Bah, I was hoping there was a once and done trick I could do to my fence vs the maintenance of keeping wings timmed, these two girls are SO hard to catch! How often do the wings need to be clipped? Moved my broody mama's last night and suddenly think it's hilarious that of all of my coops the...

I have two blue laying black sex-links from Dennis that can FLY. They were named Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum because of their troublemaking antics. I raised my plastic net fence to about 8ft high and they STILL made it over the fence. They've been locked in the coop since last Fall as I ripped...

So what does that mean for hatch day? If some eggs dont start incubate until a week or more after the others?

I'm afraid to go outside and look at my pepper plants.. and also, Hi! I thought I could keep up when I jumped back in here a few months ago, but I failed again. Back with a broody question... it's my first time ::blush:: and I've had chickens for 5 years! I have two broodies sharing a nest box...

I agree, very lucky! My neighbors hate our chickens... AND the chickens were here before they even bought their house so it shouldn't have been news to them. I can't even appease them with free eggs bc the crazy wife is allergic :barnie

Thanks for the fast reply! I was thinking of screwing some scrap boards on top of the shelf, there is a 'sink' in it that would be a pain to clean out!

Working on the playhouse coop and need to make a decision about this shelf before I screw all of the walls down to the plarltform... it has 16" of clearance under it, should it stay or go? The window above it will be the door to the run, so it could be a perch/extra standing area as they are...
