Chicken Danz: Thanks for the compliment. Silkie Chick is very excited to have the guineas. She watches them (along with the rest of the flock) for hours. It was lovely meeting you, and I now know where to go when I need to add to one of my flocks (silly chicken math). Live and Learn. If it...

Hi All, The baby chicks we ordered from McMurray came in today! We were rather worried because they got shipped on Friday (probably hatched Thursday), thus we got them about four days old. But, they all arrived safe and sound. Everyone was a little thirstier than when we usually get chicks in...

Hi, Our baby chick order got shipped Yesterday, so I was wondering if anyone has a day-old guineas (we need two) that we can raise with the chicks when they arrive. We are located just South of Topeka (Kansas). Sincerely, S.C.

We got rain too, although I am not sure how much.

Prarie - I could only imagine what people would think if someone went around the cities with goats, passing out milk to customers. Enough people looked at us strangely when we told them we bought a milking doe so we would be closer to our food supply.

chickendanz - We would love to have a couple (2-3) from whatever hatch is closest to the eighteenth. Lavenders/crosses are great, but we really don't like the pearls much.

I love all those chicken photos! My favorite chickens almost always seem to have a beard or a top hat. :) Cherwill- I wish our garden looked like that, but most of the stuff we have planted hasn't come up yet.

karenS - Goat's milk tastes exactly like cow's milk when it is fresh. If it tastes funny then it most likely had bacteria of some sort in it. The duck (her name is Drip) is a fawn and white runner. We have a drake too, and his name is Dunk.

Ivywoods - We are right around the Topeka area. Do you know what kind your friend has? We only need a couple, to grow up with and defend a bunch of chicks that are going to be coming in. Our guineas have either not started laying yet or are hiding them somewhere on the five acres (we let all...

Ivywoods- I have a small herd of goats, and the kids are just so cute! Do you ever milk goats? We have been waking up in the early morning to milk a doe, and we have found that we love goat's milk.

I was wondering if anyone was planning to have some guinea keets hatching on the week of the eighteenth of June. We would like something besides pearl...

karenS- Thanks. Pastella has quite a personality. She is my little pirate bird; has a lot of fun riding around on my shoulder. Argg, ye scalawags!

This is when one of our ducks got her foot attacked by a predator and she had to go into the bathtub to recover. This is my porcelain d'Uccle hen, she is my favorite chicken and her name is Pastella. This is one of the barnyard mix chicks that we hatched this year.

The baby chick died... The hen that was pecking it started to hurt the other chick that hatched, so she is in quarantine. At least the other mother is clucking contently and behaving as she is supposed to be.

:( I hate it when a chick hatches that you aren't sure if it is going to make it. We had one chick whose egg got stepped on right after it had made the pip hole, crushing the entire shell. We had no choice but to pull the shell off. Then one of the two mothers rejected it and began pecking at...

Medawinks- We didn't think that she would be laying for another month or two because that is when our other silkie started to lay. She is seven months old. I am so glad that she is going to be laying for you all!

Medawinks- We all love that name! It sounds as though Bloom has found a home where she is having a lot of fun!

Danz- We were the ones that sold a buff silkie hen (I don't know exactly who we sold it to), and had a few started chickens. You were one away from us. We really like ancona ducks, but we decided that we were not going to raise another lot of ducks, just see if ours go broody.

The swap at Premier today went well for us. We only ended up with only four cockerels... Do any of you know someone who might want a bantam roo or two?
