Pure Buff Orpingtons
Hi All...hope I can jump in here with a question. Up until joining BYC I thought a chicken was a chicken was a chicken. I knew a lot of different breeds but never knew about "pure bred" or vs. "hatchery grade." Personally, I order all my birds from a hatchery and it works...
Awesome deer, checoukan! I am jealous! I shot a doe last night - freezer was running low on last years venison. I hope the colder weekend weather will produce another deer for me. Congratulations!
I am thankful as well. Always been my favorite holiday because of family! Wish it was a little cooler but it sure could be worse!! Enjoy your holiday meals with loved one!!
Hey, fellow Kansans....I've been on BYC awhile - haven't posted much on Consolidated Kansas, however. Maybe I can get into the swing of things.
I actually have a question about light in the coop in the winter. I've read hundreds (and hundreds) of posts on BYC about the pros and cons. Sadly...
Fern is a beauty, alright! Looks like a lot of fun!!
How about the weather this weekend?? It's been a long time when I've been comfortable outside all day long. It was down right cool this morning!! Made me wish for fall!!!
I'm still not sold on it being a coyote and I posted on the pests and predators page and others suggested fox as well. It's jsut that I see maybe one fox a year but I see coyotes regularly. What to you think it might have been based on this: found 2 carcasses about 7:00 p.m. - had checked...
Thanks for the welcome, HEChicken! I actually joined last year but haven't been active online for while but I am back!
My flock: Right now I have 11 assorted layers, 8 more assorted pullets that are about 2 months old, 6 Cornish X (dwindling as they are sent to the freezer as they get big)...
Nice looking coop, msjfrizzle! That's something I have to get busy on - I have accommodations for the birds I'll be processing but no coop for the girls. Thank goodness they're only a couple days old!
I know what you mean about the raccoons - they are thick - I live in the country and it's...

13 Cornish X for processing in a few weeks. Hen chicks are: 2 EE, 2 Delawares, 2 Blk Australorps, 2 Buff Orps, 1 red star, 1 black star, and 2 anconas. Plus one mystery chick. Also picked up two wheaten marans last week from a guy in Missouri. They are a couple weeks older than the...
Hey...if anyone was curious...I received my order from Murray McMurray today! 26 happy healthy chicks! I know I got slapped around a little on this thread for ordering this time of year (and I'm sure the cooler weather we are having helped)! Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with McMurray! Hope...

Did you ask your local post office how long their AC has been on the fritz!?! The back of most post offices has very little air going for them because of the large open spaces, equipment and dock access.
McMurray is feeding you a line and the hook and sinker! They just want to sell...
I ordered from McMurray - I expressed my concerns to them about the heat. They said the biggest danger isn't the birds getting too warm but getting too cold when they arrive at the PO and get set in front of an AC vent. I've read that on other posts as well.
I agree about the heat today - and the wind added to it and DANG. All the outside work is done for 7:30 a.m.!!! I need to can some tomatoes...not sure how that's going to work out but I'll give it a go early in the morning. Then I want to process the rest of my "fry pan special roos" this...

I hear you - I came home with a couple bags of frozen peas, a watermelon, and two free cantaloupe the store was about to pitch. First thing when I got home I gave the birds frsh cold water and a bag of frozen peas - they perked right up!
