My apologies for this late answer to your question. I've not had a chance to get on BYC for a while. We switched our chickens to Dumor Layer crumbles, but we felt they weren't laying as well, so we changed back to Homegrown Layer Mash, both products are from Tractor Supply. Our egg laying has...

Oh, okay. Sorry, then I really can't help about fodder, as I've never grown or used it. I've done a little reading on trying to grow it, but I'm not a very good gardener :-)

I don't prepare it at all. I simply sprinkle it on salads in stews and soups,or whatever for us but in very small quantities. There's really no taste to it, but I'm hoping to derive healthy benefits from using it. Same with the chickens. I just sprinkle it on their treat food which is mostly...

Be careful with flax. I tried making my own gluten free chicken feed and put flax in it. Later, I was told that all chicken eggs are gf by a scientist at UC Davis. Since I've had no bad reactions to our eggs and we don't eat our chickens, I stopped trying to make my feed. But when I would do up...

@Happy Chooks I was told you can help me change my last name on BYC. I just got married in June and trying to get through this lengthy process with my whole life of financials, forums, and everything else. Also, I only use my Android phone in case that matters. I sure appreciate any help. I...

Thanks Ron. I think I'll take my chances, and change it:-) Here's a wedding pic of us. I'm too darned old to ever change it again, plus Michael is a retired chef, so a girl can't go wrong with that :-) I'll check with Chooks on the how to make the name change, bc I tried doing it on my own with...

Yes, my stress level was pretty high. But mostly due to the wedding planning as I did it all, but my wedding turned out beautiful, and everything else has been positive. We were sad to lose our Maggie May, but she lived a very long, happy, healthy life, and that gave me comfort in her passing...

Oh shoot. I had 2 EE's and never had a problem with poo butts, but I just bought six 2 month old Americauna hens.I sure hope I didn't give myself more work than I bargained for. I just wanted some pretty colored egg layers since we lost our EE, Goldie, not long ago. And hello to everyone. I've...

They are good about chicken necropsies in Tulare. We took one of ours up there last year. Tulare is only an hour or less drive from us. Chicken necropsies are free and you are allowed to take one bird per day there.

Cool duck. Almost looks like a wood duck, but must be a female as males are way more colorful. We went fishing at a big park here yesterday that has 2 ponds. Ducks and geese galore in the largest pond. Those little wood ducks are so beautiful.Makes me want some, but my WH are so much bigger, I...

I have a question regarding chickens in winter. Normally winters are very mild here in Bakersfield, CA, but it's been really cold here this winter(for us,that is). Here's my question. Is it necessary to have a heated coop. Temps range in a night between 40°F to mid to high 20's throughout the...
