That sounds rough and I get it. I breed Rhode Islands so I guess they’re my special chickens. They can be a little more difficult than some of the other breeds. All breeds have the potential to be turds. Ultimately, you gotta do what you gotta do. Best of luck to you, whichever way you go with it.
Don’t give up yet. There’s a lot of picking and pecking. I’ve got the same thing going on right now. It happens every year. I have 3 different age groups in one coop/run right now and there’s nonstop running and and squawking. It will get better sooner than you think. I wouldn’t let them corner...
Buffs will do fine in Raleigh. Most breeds do well in MS. I have a couple Buffs, Rhode Island Reds and Bantam Cochins. They all thrive here! Feel free to hit me up with any other questions. I watch this thread or you can post a new thread. There’s lots of helpful people here. Let us know what...
There’s a breeder in Eupora that has just about every bantam Cochin color imaginable. You can probably find them on FB. I’ll have to find their number but I could PM it to you, if you want.
Awesome! Welcome to BYC! I’m just up the road in Meridian. Never had ducks but lots of chickens. If you have questions there’s lots of duck people here with lots of knowledge.
I know this is a long way for you but you can call these folks first and maybe get some good info. They advertise in the MS Market Bulletin. They’re in Eupora. I’ll pm phone number. They answer call or text. They have rare breed duck hatching eggs. It could be a start toward getting the ducks...
So sorry you lost your rooster. I recently sold my last 4 extra roosters. It shouldn’t be hard to find one especially around your area. If you can get your hand on a MS Market Bulletin there’s lots of adds from around Pearl/Jackson. I have eggs in the incubator but a 6 week old is still a couple...
I joined in June 2020, and somehow I missed the Mississippi page. I live in Meridian, Lauderdale county MS, I am retired from the military. We are planning to move out to the county, or some other county in Mississippi. We also plan to construct a per-fab Chicken Coop and run. We have plans to...
Awesome! I live in the Meridian/Lauderdale county area also. More specifically, NE near NAS. I’ve never had one but don’t see good reviews on pre fab stuff especially TSC type coops. When you get ready hit me up. I have some connections to chicken people in the area.
Yeah you’re definitely as south as you can get. I know there’s some farms in Greene County that advertise pretty regular in the MS Market Bulletin. They usually have a good variety of breeds. Rhode Island Reds are a good choice. Great layers! I’ll keep my eye out for some sellers along the...
