I received 15 blacks and 10 lavs from John Blehm about 2 weeks ago. This is my first time owning true ameraucanas. They are about two weeks old at the moment and SUPER flighty. I have other birds just about a week older from my mixed flock that are calm as can be, but these ameraucanas freak...
It's almost here, ship date for chicks from Blehm, and really, I don't care much what color they are. I can get some blueberries to eat them with if they are not blue enough
Tailfeathers:
I was just curious to maybe hear from others something like "out of 48 pullets from so and so X amount of birds layed off color eggs". There is a decent amount of activity around here and I just like to hear people's direct experience. Not to mention I can't post over at ABC...
the possibility of brown eggs, or green ones surely does not stress me out. I like all the egg colors, though I must admit white is not as appealing to me for whatever reason. I would just be kind of dissappointed if I got a large number of khaki + green laying birds from birds that I...
those darn egg color threads over a the ABC forum have me all worried I'm gonna get a bunch of easter eggs from my birds...
Surely someone on here (or several) will have an opinion of what i may end up with...
I ordered 10 lav and 15 black LF from John Blehm...due in april. From the thread i...
birds to ship in april 10 lav 15 black, now i don't have to try and breed my own line of ameraucana from my ideal ee stock.
I just thought this smilie was cool

I found a cool site though, through google: http://www.edelras.nl/chickengenetics/
I've got a lot more reading to do
It just seems to me like if this is the case, that John develops lavender, only john, and then distributes birds around, the only way they could get more genetically diverse is by crossing them and then trying to breed back to the standard. It seems that with new breed development, (or breed...
well, I sent my check out yesterday, asked for 10 lavenders and 15 blacks...
hopefully it gets there before some other chicken fanatics check does
I will surely be back to talk about them, I'm mildly interested in the genetics behind this chicken variety thing....
And I may have to try and...
I think I might overnight my check to him, maybe I could bribe him with an early morel hunt if he comes to Ohio.... brain is churning....
must have bright blue eggs!!!!
This thread has convinced me... I'm thinking about putting in an order with Blehm for a couple dozen lavender LF.
I'd like some blue wheaten because those roos are just awesome, but I was thinking John in closer to me (I'm in Ohio) and I'm trying to find quality in the birds but at the same time...
wow, I can't believe I actually read the whole thing... Beautiful pictures everyone and an informative thread.
I don't have any ameraucanas... unless you ask ideal hatchery, then I have 16 of them. I like the blue eggs but get those light brown ones and green ones mostly from my EE's... I may...
