If they are about 3 days old you check search for the thread on here about Feather Sexing. We used it with a batch of about 20 polish chicks to get trios - and it was 100% right! lucky us!!
Oh Josh! Sorry you lost a batch. I have better luck if I slip them under the momma at night and swap out the eggs.
You could always ship some of those extra babies up my way, LOL! We've had our roo seperated from our hens because he was being to rough on their feathers and we were afraid...
pbirdhaven - I'm glad the blue roo is doing well. We lost 2 of his hatchmates in the last 2 months - the Khaki & frizzled Chocolate hens. Of course, the rare colors !
They might be pullets, the last one sure has the Afro look that you see in a pullet's poof. With the roos, it will start to look more like Dreadlocks, and less like a tight afro.
Hey there! Welcome to the thread here, and I'm thrilled to hear he is settling in well!! He's going to make some sharp looking chicks I think Your three chicks are doing well too, still hanging out with their "Momma".
operator16 - yes, I find that my polish are very vocal compared to the rest of the flock, including my roos! I started with a pair of 1 yr. old girls and they would chit chat to each other all the live long day! When I'd get up and head to the coop to let them out in the AM, I could hear them...
I have a batch of 9 chicks now, and should we end up with more than a couple of roos, I plan to rehome them. I would hope to get them to a home that loves Polish and might use them to breed.
Did you get them all at the same time? They really are different! I would *think* that maybe you have the starts of a rooster there (or someone using growth hormones on his hair ) They are all really pretty!!
Lolita - they are from an auction here on BYC, all White Crested, but a mix of blue (my fave ), black, white, khaki, and chocolate - with 50/50 chance for any of them to also show up frizzled.
I also have a broody sitting on six polish eggs. They should hatch by Saturday - but at last...
