What are your winters like there? Here they are wet, wet and more wet. My major projects all summer have been to put metal corrugated roofing on my "chicken" kennels. I just finished a big one a day or so ago and have 4 more to go. There is always some project that needs doing. I...

Yeah, it is miserable hot out. I try to get things done early in the a.m. and then come indoors until it cools off later in the day. I run box fans in my wired in carports for my exotics and it is still hot; but, at least the air moves some that way. Sorry about your baby, that...

Someone actually did make a "Big Bird" once. Just don't forget to add Araucana! (adds the rumplessness and taller stance as well as yellow legs)
Yes, he showed me the picture. After that I found a couple of more. Folks have used various mixes. I think that he has the white...
Do you get the all white ones often? Do you sell them? I have a customer, he's in Afganistan until December. He asked me to see if I could find some for him. He wants to make a "Big Bird'.
They are precious, remind me of my collection of "gooney birds". Their crests stand up tall right from the get go. My chicks just look like someone put a bowl on their head. LOL
What is WCB?

After you mentioned the leg color I went out and checked my new chicks. The "oddball" dark chick has dark legs and the rest have light colored legs
The hens are two very different shades of buff
This is a pic of the trio that had one dark chick and the rest are light. I wonder...

They are so crazy, silly, cute little ones. Bet the two pairs on the end are gossiping about the one in the middle LOL
I had to go to town today so no pictures yet. Will get some soon of my new hatchlings.
Hi Karen
Hope I got that right, not too sure which post goes with whom yet.
Anyway, yes my Buff Polish set and hatch their own eggs. I would have a lot more chicks if I would set up the incubator but just haven't done it--YET. I keep saying that and now summer is half over. My Gold Laced...

It's funny that you mention this because I've had to un-hook two in the last 2 weeks (they're about 5 weeks old). One in a milk crate and one from some wire. They both were very cooperative waiting for me to free them but I was wondering if there was an issue with this breed getting...

HOW SAD! My 7 week old buff laced bantam rooster is real curious. I will keep an eye on that one now! Thanks for the warning!
Sorry about your Polish. Yes, combine the curiosity with not being able to see very well and they can get into a lot of trouble. Thank you for the reminder.

Ha, ha, I never thought of that--maybe a headband LOL When I got my two Buff Polish the roo had no trouble seeing. The man who gave him to me had trimmed his head feathers. He really looked silly!

I have told my Polish, over and over again, when they were younger and still running around loose, to get out of the rain! They didn't listen and I would have to go out and put them in their covered coop when it was raining. I sold one of my roos. The man who bought him said that he...

I just use a regular waterer. There are heated ones you can buy or do a search and I think I saw a site that talked about making one. On the days that we have freezes, not as often as you, I go out early and break the layer of ice. Since the hoses are usually frozen I take out a...

I'm in Northern CA and we get, maybe, a dozen nights of freezing during the winter. It doesn't seem to bother my chickens; but, then the freezing is not continuous.

When I went out to check on the chicks the two hens are sitting side by side. I knew one was darker than the other but not how much darker. Went to take some pics and of course the battery needs charging. I'm going to try and post some pics again.
If I did this right this should...
Have you done that before, bred a lighter to darker Polish to get more intense color? As I posted, my Buff Polish gave me what looks like a gold laced LOL
That picture of your white or is it buff Polish is my favorite. Looks like real attitude
I haven't figured out how to post pics yet and have to go check on the chicks. You'd think I was the momma every time some hen hatches her babies.
