I can't tell, does it have a pea comb or a straight comb. It looks like a buff brahma to me, if it has a pea comb that's probably what it is. Cute little baby.
Mine crowed quite a bit when he first learned how. Now he seldom does, a few times a day really. He's a good boy, very good with his girls and with my kids.
I agree pretty much completely. The only drawback I've found is they aren't too great at laying, at least mine aren't. My silkies laid better. My 2 pullets were hatched in July. One isn't laying at all yet, the other is laying 2-3 eggs a week. If they pick up some when the weather is nicer I...
Some pics of my girls from today. They were not happy with the snow (neither am I, I feel their pain!). They had given up and were heading back to the coop for the day when I took these. I'm getting about 2-3 eggs a week from one girl, the other still hasn't started laying, they were hatched in...
I ordered mine from Ideal too, last year. I'm really happy with them, I've ordered from them twice now and both times were small orders and in not the best weather conditions for shipping. Both times I received a box of happy healthy babies.
Thanks! I love them and the way they come running up to talk to you when they see you. I generally like my geese and ducks more than chickens, but the d'uccles are different lol, and I wish I would have gotten them sooner.
Still waiting for my first egg from my trio. They are 30 weeks old, so any day now would be nice, lol. I had an EE that didn't start laying until about 38 weeks, I'm hoping they aren't trying to follow her example.
My rooster crows a lot too. Even the girls, they just like to chatter a lot in general I think, lol. They are small enough they aren't very loud though.
My d'uccles are 20 weeks old now. They are getting more and more friendly. My cockeral still isn't crowing. They are all pretty quiet, unless they see the treat bucket. Then they come flying over to me. The only bantams I've had before have been sizzles and silkies which don't fly, and my LF...
Yes. I like the name lavender better, because it's less easily confused with andalusion type blue. I think the colors already in the standards as self blue though.
I agree. I hatch more ducks than chickens, which need more humidity. I still dry hatch with them. I only add water if the furnace is running and relative humidity drops, I like it to at least be in the 30's.
Lavender and self blue are the same in chickens.
Here's the site/pics you were talking...
Sorry about Hope.
My favorite incubator is a broody hen, lol. I use a lg, and actually like it quite a bit. It works wonderfully for me with my waterfowl. I would like to get a brinsea for my chicken eggs though. If you can find a sportman cabinet incubator or something around you on CL go for...
I think the blindness at hatching is just a freak thing. From what I've read even if it does have a genetic base, it's unlikely to happen again. I think your baby will be fine SilkiesForEver, and not have many problems. Look at silkies and polish, they are close to blind from their crests and do...
That little dot in the middle of the eye does look similar to my duck. From the research I did when I had my duckling hatch for them to hatch blind is extremely rare. Usually genetic, but only like 1 in 200 female ducklings will hatch with it. And it's always girls. The blind bird is also...
Not a chick, but I have a call duck that hatched blind. I've just always made sure she has a friend. Her buddy calls to her and helps her find her way around. They are also in an enclosed pen with my mandarin ducks, so there is no one to bully them and everything stays in it's spot. She's...
