ALWAYS..... LOL let them go broody and they will usually raise enough chicks for you.... :)if you have two broody hens in the same pen, seperate them once the chicks hatch, or they will fight, often killing the chicks. I have seen them pick up another hens chick and shake them like a dog...

She has nice type, but she doesnt have the greatest beard, but what stands out the most is the lack of spangles on feathers, each feather should have 5 colors on it... and the tip of each brown feather should have a black end with a white diamond and each black tail feather should havae a white...

I woulnt be afraid to show the girls !!! she looks nice, if you were picking her apart, her spangles could be "crisper" and more lined up in a pattern they should look even and not bunched up... but I woudl show her for sure, she is better quality than some I have seen at shows... :)

I agree...... the color looks fine for this age, they do look like pullets.... the only thing I see at this point is no beards... and they should be starting to get beards. Give them a bit more time and see if they have a muff or not.... If htey are going to be breeding or show quality, th ey...

I cant usualy tell by color at 3 weeks.... but about a month you can see t he roos get a bit bigger comb and stand a little more upright, and I have noticed have a little more black around their eyes.. and the hens have a bigger beard, and less comb and are a little more brown than black. but...

you are correct, the other big difference is the wattles... Duccles dont have, or have VERY small wattles.... there are very few who show booted bantams in the US, at least at the shows we attend.. but they can be shown just be sure to enter them as a booted and NOT a duccle, as they would have...

Chicks do get their color now, but for sure the darker the chick is now, the better he will be. We dont judge any color issues until they have gone through a moult, UNLESS they are super white before they moult. I woudl say that from the size of this chicks spangles already, it might end up...

Yes.... he has the right things for the Booted Bantam traits.... but not for the Duccle.... so you are right to not want him bredding your hens... all of ours are sweet too.... Duccles arent know for being great egg layers... so I woudl say thats average... some lay every day but not many...

you cant tell very well at this age.... watch for pointed feathers on the neck and saddle area.... as soon as you see ONE pointed feather... its a boy..... It kind of looks "roosterish" but I have seen MANY hens look just like this at this age...

Your hen is very nice..... :) excellent beard..... but your rooster is not a Duccle per say... he would be considered a "booted bantam".... if you entered him in a show as a millie fluer Duccle, they would say he was in the wrong class.... they are for sure two different breeds.... a booted...
