D'uccle Thread

I keep seeing people say that Mille Fleurs dont get their spots until they have their adult feathers, but I have 2 four week old pullets that I hatched which are both starting to show a mille fleur pattern already. Their feathers are coming in with black tips on caramel and many are starting to show tiny white tips too. What can I expect from their plumage if they are growing into their colors to young?

Chicks do get their color now, but for sure the darker the chick is now, the better he will be. We dont judge any color issues until they have gone through a moult, UNLESS they are super white before they moult. I woudl say that from the size of this chicks spangles already, it might end up being to white... but you never know... LOL

Booted bantams (sablepoots) are basically a d'Uccle without a beard. They have a few color differences, but I believe their recognized show varieties are the same.
you are correct, the other big difference is the wattles... Duccles dont have, or have VERY small wattles....
there are very few who show booted bantams in the US, at least at the shows we attend.. but they can be shown just be sure to enter them as a booted and NOT a duccle, as they would have to many flaws to be placed in that class..

Thanks for the info! Bento's "twin" is showing less white than this so I will have a nice comparison.

Woo! Just found a great thread which included a sex comparison photo at three weeks and I'm bouncing up and down on the couch because according to that I have two pullets and won't have the heartbreak of either being a roo that I have to cull! Yaaaay!!!
