Not skinny, so they deal with cold well, small combs so they deal with cold well, not grouchy when confined so they deal with being indoors during cold well... need I go on?

Ok, that reply just went out to cyberspace somewhere. Let's try this again,
I was waiting for someone else to reply as I don't particularly like to criticize other's birds. But since you asked, I'm assuming you'd like a straight answer in order to help you with your selections. So...
Here's a couple pictures, not great pics, and prolly would have been nicer on a sunny day too.
Do they have too much black on them? I need to get some of my hens.

Yeah, I get that Dave and I was never trying to say you were. I was trying to back out of the subject but I started to feel like I'd been really misunderstood. I'm not talking about Laura (Pathfinders), Dave, and all you other serious Buckeye Breeders making profits like McMurray, or...
Well, I did say at least the smaller ones, there are still a few of them out there, though I suppose even they are interested in getting larger which does limit what they can do about things.

I don't really think its a business for most breeders, but a hobby. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. But, why not start with the best you can?
Ummm, that's my point. I guess I don't understand yours, or we aren't getting each other's. I'm not dreaming of hatcheries...

Thank you for pointing to the better Search tool, it looks like it will be MUCH less frustrating! Like your...

You do have keep an eye on things if you have a wood floor, not pretending it's not an issue! It may take a few tries to get the balance right. If you don't pay enough attention you might be doing some serious repair work. Now... this thread has gotten pulled well off the proper topic so I'll...
My coop is a wooden floor and I pretty darn near do the deep litter method. I just checked it today after 9 mos since last clean out and the base is good and dry. If you have good ventilation, and you keep some DE going on, as well as adding some extra shavings as you go, it never gets messy...
