Do you have room for one more straight run order of 12, day olds before the heat of the summer? I don't have a 'bator or I'd ask about eggs.

Dave, Please do not sell any chicks to folks in Oklahoma or Arkansas. If you do we will have to compete with them at the fall shows. Most of them already have chicks/eggs from Jen. seriously, would be nice to see 50+ Buckeyes at Shawnee in December!

Hey Jim....guess what?....no, go ahead and guess.....I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count......
I just placed my order with BuckeyeDave

It is called reverse psycholgy...and it works! It is no fun to win Best of Breed if only two birds are present. Also, the chances of winning Champion American increases if more birds are entered in your breed. Am so glad you ordered the chicks. Yours are from BuckeyeDave, just one generation removed. All of Jen's Buckeyes came from Dave except Chris' roo. This fall we plan on taking at least 10 birds per show so folks can see them. Hope to see lots of competition.

You did try to warn me...they are addictive.

Seriously though, when we do start showing, I will probably be asking you a lot of questions. We've never shown before, in fact the first show I've ever been to in my life was when we met. It'll be great to have a mentor at the shows that has the same breed.

When my son gets old enough I would like to see him get as involved as your kids are.

I've been talking up the buckeyes on the "okie" page of BYC and have started to gain an interest here in OK. In fact, when I mentioned that I would be taking some of the extra roos I got from Jen to a poultry auction down around Oklahoma City, there were several folks who e-mailed; they wanted me to be sure to tell them when I was going because they were interested. I had one fellow here in Tulsa that I believe is going to get a couple before I take them to auction.

So hopefully, if not this winter, at some of the shows in the near future, will have a better showing of the outstanding buckeyes.

Thank you all for this thread! I have been reading all I can about Buckeyes, it is the breed I truly want and would love to start a breeding program in the future with.

That being said I just started my life with chickens a month ago. My nephews got tired of me reading about chickens and thought it was time I actually had some so they brought me some after a visit to TSC. They are not Buckeyes but I love them and look forward to spending time each day with them. Each moment I spend with them gives me a greater desire to obtain some quality Buckeye stock and start my part in helping re-establish the breed.

I have a question though...can anyone please tell me the differences between the URCH, Brown and ALBC strains? Also, are anyone of them more true to the mahogany color than the other?

Thanks for a great thread!

I have 11 buckeye eggs in the incubator on lockdown. I candled last night and saw movement in at least 8

It's cold except for a few summer months, so I'm trying these and chanteclers, among others. I bought them off eggbid when didn't see any for sale or get a response for my wanted on BYC. The seller got his stock at an auction. That'll be fine for me since I haven't been planning on showing and am trying the breed for the 1st time. They sound great and I can't wait for them to hatch! The 21st day is my daughter's birthday and we will have lots of company this weekend to watch them

Hey there, buckeyefever! I grew up in Westerville, just a hop skip and a jump from Sunbury. The ALBC line was developed using urch and brown, among others, I understand. I don't know enough about the lines to say if there are any well defined differences between the lines. Maybe Chris or Laura?

Tulsa State fair puts on a pretty good show very year. Pryor also has a good show. You need to subscribe to the Poultry Press. They have ads each month for the shows. Get an APA Standard of Perfection. Good luck with those Buckeyes.

Well, I am reading this thread from its beginning and I have reached page 50. On page 50 I received my answer, regarding the Urch, Brown and ALBC strains. Seems like ALBC can be bred to either Urch or Brown since both are in the strain. Urch and ALBC seem to be my interest at this point.

Honestly, I can't wait to read through the remaining pages! There is so much to learn and I'm loving it!
