I never thought about how hatcheries assembled their breeding pens to get their eggs. I didn't realize that they put purebred birds of every color in one pen together and then call the offspring Ameraucana. I guess thats why every once in awhile you get a bird that looks like the APA standard...
I posted some pictures of my birds a few posts previous to this one. All were from Cackle. They seem to have great color variety when it comes to their EE's. No two chicks looked alike.
and the wonderful world of chickens! EE's are really fun and I highly recommend them. I haven't had barred rocks myself, but a lot of people really love them. I hear they are good egg layers and have very friendly personalities. Do you want Barred Rocks because you like the barred feather...
I think she looks like a pullet. All I'm going by is the color though because at this age it is very hard to tell. EE's in general are quite difficult to sex.
They are too young to lay yet. The Columbian Wyandotte x Buff Orpington should be a very good layer. The other two won't be prolific layers . I'm guessing they will average 200-250 eggs a year.
I couldn't resist taking a picture of my girls this morning. I had to feed before it was light outside and they decided they would rather sleep in a little bit longer.
Please post your pictures! We love all EE's on this thread, and everyone loves to see pictures of beautiful birds. This thread is all about variety and I don't think anyone would look down their nose at your birds. I have some "project rejects" myself and I loooove them! Great, friendly little...
I used a very similar example to this one. I had a hard time with the classification system they use for Ameraucanas and the responses I received on the the "sticky" thead regarding my questions was quite rude. Seems you have experienced the exact same thing when asking for clarification. I love...
I agree with everything you just said. We have a rooster that targeted my son and he became scared to go outside by himself. So I decided to start a game with him. He loves to throw rocks at tin cans, so I figured it wouldn't be much different to throw rocks at the rooster. We live in Arkansas...
I just posted asking to see pictures of your birds, and here they are! Very cute! It's hard for me to tell what color they are going to be from this picture. Most feedstore birds sold as Ameraucanas are actually Easter Eggers. Here is a link to the ABC's website where you can look at pictures of...
Hi there! We would love to see some pictures of your birds! I think you will really enjoy this thread, it is one of my favorites. This topic does come up a lot but people will welcome you here and do their best to answer any questions you may have. I don't want to take people away from this...
I like it. I think the part I enjoyed the most is that you have obviously put a lot of thought into your post and are passionate about Ameraucanas and EE's and trying to find a way to create a better classification system. I like the idea of maybe calling non-standard Ameraucanas...
Thanks! I'm not 100% sure. I know the rooster was a buff silkie. The hen was either a wheaten or a blue wheaten ameraucana (purebred). I'm not sure which one :(. She had two different pens. Each had a buff silkie rooster and one had a blue wheaten hen the other a wheaten hen.
I hope you are right and he grows out of it. Right now he is a big bully. I have to young boys one is only three years old and he was afraid of him for awhile. Which of course didn't sit well with me. He has started to develop his throwing arm and has decided it is fun to throw them at the...
