    The EE braggers thread!!!

One thing to look at is the legs. Any ameracauna will have blue/slate blue legs. If they have green legs, then they have some type of yellow leg bird crossed in somewhere. Though,@jerryse would know more on this subject. But if it is a blue, then it should have blue legs. If it's pure ameraucana...

I agree, but hatcheries do that because they want to make more money. The best way to tell what their birds really are is to look at the breed photos they have, look at the prices, and do your research on the breed. Look at cackle hatchery for example. They offer red jungle fowl. They label them as...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

That is my point. If crele type barring is bred into a strain, which is easy to do because barring of any type tends to be a strong gene, then it should be fairly easy to get the autosexing gene into a bird or strain of birds. The biggest part is breeding for a specific look or color (variety) and...

@CorvidLady I will have to try to get ahold of some golden laced wyandottes and some wheaten ameraucanas. I don't have the wheatens, and for wyandottes I only have a Columbian hen... But I will look into getting some.

Precisely, you can see the crele type barring, which is characteristic of autosexing breeds...were those juveniles autosexing at hatch?

@jerryse I recall seeing those pictures somewhere, but I can't quite put a time on it. Although, crele seems to be the best color to work with when autosexing, just look at the rhodebar, legbar(obviously),isbar, and welbar. Those are all autosexing breeds, and they all have the same,or almost the...

@CorvidLady did you use a pure wheaten ameraucana hen? That roo is really pretty too. @jerryse I figured with the crele patterning that they had creme legbar in them, because the crepe is basically barring, except with different colors added in,and the barring tends to be stronger with genetics,at...

@CorvidLady are ivy and her sister EE's that you hatched? I would love to know what you crossed to get them. She is SO pretty. I still have to post pictures of mine. My roo is GORGEOUS. He is a real looker.

Also, along the whole hatchery thing,I won't need to go through a hatchery, most likely, because I have a trio of BBS ameraucanas. One blue cockerel,a blue pullet, and a black pullet. I'm thinking of separating my blue hen into a pen with my EE cockerel with sebright bantam in him,and breed...

Those are pretty cockerels, except @mymilliefleur,I think that he used creme Legbars in t cross for both, except the one cockerel turned out more ameraucana like, and the other turned out more Legbars like, but I see where you're coming from with the leghorn. But omg, those are really pretty...

True ameraucanas can only lay blue eggs, and have blue legs. They only have pea combs, aand have to have both ear muffs and beard. Barely if at all visible earlobes and wattles.

@CorvidLady I LOVE your hen Ivy. I have an EE cockerel that is EE roo crossed with golden laced sebright bantam hen. And then I have,I think, two EE hens, one f1 removed and one f2 removed.. The mother(f1) of the removed hen is a cross between a light Brahma roo and an EE hen. And then the...

I don't know of tons of hatcheries with them off hand, but based on the catalog pics, cackle hatchery has a big mix of looks. I also know Meyer hatchery has EE's, but other than that,I can't really think of any hatcheries that have them. Also,Meyer hatchery has bantam EE's.

I do believe you have all pullets, but if any are cockerels,it would be the second one...I couldn't really tell very well from the pic...but otherwise, they look to be all pullets.

What colors did you create? Or were they already existing colors that you color crossed to get? I also looked at the directories, and saw your name as a listed breeder...do you sell birds that you breed?

Okay, that makes more sense now...also,I saw your profile pic is a lavender ameraucana rooster. I was wondering if you knew of someone who breeds those...because I have bbs ameraucanas...I have a pair of blues,a splash pullet, and a trio of blacks...at least this is what they appear to be(gender...

Have you been able to autosex them yet? I always wondered how that would work...getting the trait for autosexing... Do you have to just take and separate different looking chicks, and then take males of one pattern, and females of a different pattern? I have never understood how that worked...
