The last one pipped died. I don't know what I could have done differently. I had to open it to get the chicks out, but I just snuck them out. Humidity didn't drop below 60% at any time. So I guess I saved one and lost one. Very bummed. I think the last one just took too long too, and the...
Well I had to help chick no 11 (he was supposed to be 10) Anyway he zipped most all the way yesterday, but just didn't get the job done. The egg was right near the fan so I was afraid it would dry out. I watched it and the breathing got more labored. So I decided to get it out of there. The...
Oh they start bebopping around right away. Although they are really clumsy and floppy for a while.
No. 8 just hatched. It's black too Oh well, I'm happy for that too. 9 continues to work at it. 10 is taking it's time, and 11 the blue oprington, that I wasn't sure was a pip or a little...
Ok, here's your pic. It's not very good since they wouldn't look at me.
I think one of those still in the bator is a barred rock and one a buff/barred mix. They are all coming out black now. I want more buffs.
Yep, it's day 21 this ordeal is almost over.
here is no 5. I was a little worried because he didn't have as much energy as the others did. But finally no 6 hatched and he as a friend. Now he's just full of energy
Here's no 6
Are you all tired of hatch pictures yet? I have about 5 more...
I have like 6 pips going and nobody getting on the stick and getting the job done. I have 1 little one in the bator wanting a friend. He keeps talking to the pips but its not getting them to work any harder.
BTW, do all chick zip counter clockwise? Just wondering.
Speaking of bills, you still need to give me the info to pay for the batch that's coming
I have 5 pips right now (I think) the more I look at the blue orp egg the more I'm convincing myself that it's pipped. I also have one chicky drying out. It's going to be a very long day.
Caught DH in...
Glad your class is enjoying it. No 5 just hatched. Nice of him (I think it's a roo) to wait until I got up. There are 3 more pips so far. Nothing on the blue orps though I'm very sad about that. Keep your fingers crossed
Well, this round isn't done yet tomorrow is day 21 these are just early birdies. Can't wait for the next round. Gotta tell you IBW is about the hardest work I've done in a long time. I'm totally pooped out.
4 down, 14 more in the bator. Keep your fingers crossed that those blues will...
Ok, here's more pictures.
3 chick hatching
4th chick hatching
All 4 in the brooder Don't panic about the temp, I just move the thermometer over from the edge of the box
Oh, and I have another pip.
Ok, falling behind on pictures. I now have 4 chicks, and no more pips yet, but tomorrow is day 21 so these could just be the early birds. If these little critter would leave the poor eggs alone long enough to pip.
the 3rd and 4th are both black. One looks pretty solid black though. Could...
Number 3 just hatched. This one is black. So I'm guessing a barred rock or barred/buff mix.
No new pips though I have just one more that's trying to hatch. I guess the others will be slow if these wild kids would stop kicking their eggs around, they might get a chance to pip
Yep, this is my first. I'm very excited. DH is like, leave them alone, it's just a chicken. It's so fasinating for me, I've never seen it this close before. I did watch Arlee's hatch via webcam.
She's such a busy little chick. Flopping around the whole bator chirping her little guts...
