    Crele?

Mostly I was just curious as you usually find things mentioned in numerous places--even if it is to disagree, and kazjaps website was the only mention I have seen. Thanks!

Quote: DNA contains the recipe for making a protein. The cell makes the proteins according to the recipe on the DNA. The recipe for making a protein is found in the DNA and is called a gene. So, the color of a chicken is not actually determined by a gene; the protein made from the recipe is...

Quote: Thank you! Interesting read; attractive birds. I guess I am still wondering how Queen Silvia ended up as a proposed E-allele, since it seems to be a relatively rare autosexing breed? Is it that "The patternis believed to be a mutation from white Leghorn" ?

Quote: I would say e^b is always the most recessive, and e^Wh is mostly recessive to e+ because of the ubiquitious melanizers present in our fowl. I am going by what I have read--you have a lot more experience and are probably wider read. Genetics of Chicken Colours lists the order of...

The problem with that is that the E-alleles have been coded, and there is no e^p; I am pretty sure it is e^b. At one time 10 or more E-alleles were thought to exist; that has been disproven. Anyways, the E-alleles include only E (extended black), E^R (birchen), e^Wh (wheaten), e+ (wild-type)...

He is not brown red. He is either BBR, wheaten or possibly brown. I am not good at distinguishing the subtle differences in the males--there are significant differences in the female plumage.

Note that coloured wing triangle in the first photo? That indicates a duckwing pattern, which is carried by BBR (e+/e+). wheaten (e^Wh/e^Wh) and I think brown (e^b/e^b). Birchen are crow winged and do not have the wing triangle. They also have lacing on their breasts. Brown red is a gold...

Quote: A barred hen will give the gene to only her sons. A barred cock will give it to all his offspring if he has two copies, to half his offspring if he has only one--gender will play no role in which half inherit from him.

I've always been told that true crele is BBR plus barring: e+/e+ B/B or B/-
