Here's my guys today in our first big snow storm of the year. They had to stay penned up and watch me shovel all day. It was killing them and me too! I felt so bad and wanted to let them out but the snow was so deep. I thought if they took off flying they would not be able to find their way back!
Is that guy from Long Island? When I first started hatching I would always look through eBay at hatching eggs and I would see a listing up year round for calls. They had created too.
I just sent ravyn a message because I was in a sheer panic! My son had an allergic reaction to nuts at school and I had to leave immediately and take him to urgent care (I was only gone a couple hours) but when I got home and went out to check on my babies they literally had icecicles forming...
Yes, @Johnn keep the pics coming! This is my first year with call ducks, (well ducks period) and I can imagine that Lacey imprinted on her chicken mama pretty hard. The pics told the story beautifully. In spring I hatched a single call duckling from shipped eggs and she thought she was human for...
That is good to hear! Thanks! I've looked into those aquarium heaters myself. Have you ever heard of filling up small bottles with salt water and submerging them in the duck pool to keep the water from freezing? Someone told me about this but I couldn't find it on byc though.
Hi all! I was hoping to get some input. This is my first winter with call ducks. I have 4. Can anyone give me some winter tips? We've had beautiful, warm weather all month till now. I'm in the process of finishing their new enclosure and could easily implement any tips now. Enclosure is a 8x6...
I wish I would have handled mine more when they were babies. They were right in the living room with us but it was spring and that's a busy time of year around here! Not that it matters much since they are soooo imprinted on us. They always walk through the house if I leave the door open...
That is great! As long as they all came out healthy with the yolk absorbed (mostly absorbed, I've learned) and no major bleeding then it wasn't to soon! How old are they today?
I have a very small backyard flock of calls as pets. Someone had commented on a pic I had on FB and referred to this little girl as a butterscotch. Does she look like she could have some butterscotch?
Oh my goodness!!! These are the cutest pictures...EVER! If my house call ever makes me a...
Well please pm me if you need any help or have any questions!! It was a long, stressful hatch with lots of assisting but so worth it! My first batch was very badly damaged in shipping and all had fully rolling aircells but I managed to get one precious baby to hatch. She is now a happy, healthy...
Good luck! Have you hatched calls before? Once I start getting eggs it will be very tempting! I saw them try to mate For the first time today. It was comical! :gig
When are the eggs coming? They were very enjoyable to hatch but I felt a lot of pressure come hatch time. Got them all out safe, though. I hatched 4 girls and 3 boys. I would like to get a good home for a few of them and just keep 2 pairs but no interest around here and I can't see them going to...
My calls are so cute that I can't even stand it!! Never had ducks before and hatched my calls this spring. They are obsessed with me! As soon as they hear the back door open they are yelling and flying to greet me...every time (which is about a dozen times a day). They are loud! But I love it...
I knew this was going to happen! It's Monday morning and the kids have gone back to school and my lone little duckling is freaking out because the house is so quiet and the kids are gone. I just want to sit on my bed, fold laundry, nurse the baby (human), etc. but there is this crying 'ling in...
