I had two hens hatch eggs in January in an unheated coop... I am in Michigan, just off the lake... I think they'll be fine.

That is brilliant! I have plenty of nest boxes already, but they always seem to fight over 2, and they will just get pissy waiting and lay under the coop. I can build one of those and set it under, maybe then they won't be in the bathing holes!

Well let me tell you what... I let Roger breed with a white silkie... I have one black... one black with gold leakage... one I have no idea... I was advised that I shouldn't have done that since there was no telling what I would get... boy was that true!

No. I have had that happen on several newly laying girls, and then also on some broodies eggs when they go back to laying after so long of not.
