Do hatchery Silkies lay for a shorter time than others? I only got like 30-40 eggs from my girl she is about 1.5 years old. I don't really mind it cause she's my favorite. But I'm wondering if she's laying elsewhere, she often sits in the coops nesting boxes like she's going to lay but I never...
This is interesting to me. I let my Silkie, Grey, hatch two eggs and I thought I had a little black chick but look what happened today! those little brown tips are killing me! These are the parents. I'm terrible at trying to figure out these Silkie genetics and colors. Does anyone have an idea...
I'm sorry I had to quote everything, I don't know how to just quote one part yet But I was wondering if you had your chicks in a brooder and if they had something to roost on while there? At about a week old with my silkies we put a stick in their brooder, drilled in on the sides for them to...
I'm really not sure. The mother is more grey. Her name is Grey. Lol but the father was a buff Silkie. He had to be rehomed:( (I bought 5 Silkie chicks and 4 ended up being roosters, Grey was the only girl). I don't know about Silkie traits or genetics but this chick has spots of yellow so maybe...
Baby #1 decided to give #2 her own space under mommy for a lil bit. #2 is really small compared to her. I hope she will be thriving like her sibling soon.
Thank you you're guide really helped a lot although I didn't have these eggs in an incubator, it was easy to follow and assist where needed. So thankful right now!! <3 It's her first time and mine. I picked up some vitamins for the one that had trouble, and the other is starting to explore now...
Well my chick made it.But I had to assist more.she was still stuck in the egg this morning with a wing partially showing and dried so gently broke pieces off and she kicked right out in my hand. It lookd like she was zipping wrong. Part of the shell and membrane was dried to her eye, so I rewet...
Thank you!!! Thanks so much for the link. I checked again and her little pip hole was sealed. Like it sealed itself. Maybe it was my taking shell pieces off with the warm towel. I opened it again, a little bigger with tweezers, for her to breathe and she started to peep louder and felt like she...
Thank you!!! Does it seem like she's in the wrong position? How would you assist? I'm thinking I have to open her pip hole a little more. Is that okay to do and then slip her back under mama?
I have an egg under my Silkie right now . The first egg hatched wednesday morning and I expected this one today. I checked on the egg and it seems to be zipping? in a circle on the bottom part instead of around the shell. The shell is still stuck on the membrane but in bits like of you tapped an...
I agree. I think more space will keep the two from fighting and separation. They are just a little under five weeks right now. And we have had chilly weather. I'm going to use this separation time to make a larger brooder, see if that helps when I reintroduce her. Its just that this little chick...
Yeah the little one DOES love to go for my hand looking for banana or lettuce or, oh gosh, meal worms!!! Lol but this was very different . I wasn't near them at all and it started out of nowhere . She's been seperated but when I try to introduce her again she continues to stalk and attack the...
Thanks! They are really fighting. Drawing blood and pecking out feathers. It was pretty scary, they were fine one moment everyone looked great. The next thing I know I hear them practically screaming and they were both bloody on their combs and their heads.
I think that's a great point!!! Maybe they need more space!? They aren't fully feathered yet and its a little cold at night so they aren't outside yet but space might be an issue. The roo hides in a corner when the other chick is in the brooder and tries to get away but the other just stalks...
Thank you! I separated them from 11 am to about 3 pm when I had a chance to get home on my lunch break and make sure everything was fine. I have her in a tote with another chick that she gets along with. Otherwise they all cry. After I tried putting her back in earlier and she continued to pick...
Good evening everyone. I'm having a little problem with my Silkie chicks and was wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what they have done about it. I have 5, almost 5 week old Silkie chicks . Two of them were fighting this morning and drew blood on each other. I've seperated them...
