I feel like this is more for this thread than the "serious" breeding and showing thread, since I am not serious into showing or breeding.
I was told there are gold and silver genes in white silkies, and other colors too I suppose. White Silkies with the gold gene will yellow more than White...
It's been a long time since I have thumbed through this thread. I forgot how much I like to look at the silkies!
I have a question that I hope someone can help me with...I have 2 pins of silkies, bbs & white. My bbs will give me 1-2 eggs a day from 4 hens, but my whites will not lay. They are...

I have a pullet who does the same thing. A week or so after she hatched, she started puttting her head between her feet and walking backwards until she ran into a wall. Then she would continue trying to put her head as far back under her as she could until she would flip over forwards...

There are actrually MANY silkie breeders in California. If you are a member of the American SIlkie Bantam Club, you can see who all is in California on the club website.
All the ones I found on line were either far north of me or far south. I do plan on joining the SBC soon though so...

Should be fertile about 6 months or earlier. Some are late bloomers though.
Wow, Ugh I better get started on the big run! hahaha... How do I know if an egg in fertilized? (Probably a stupid question...)
Here is a link to another thread with pictures of fertile vs. infertile eggs...

You can put any colors together that you want to. It just depends on what you want. I have a splash roo and had him with white hens and got all blue chicks. I'm not a genetic guru but you might be able to put a partridge hen with the blue roo and get blue partridge. Other...

ChooksChick lives in Larry, KS. She might be able to help you out. I'm not sure where the two towns are in relationship to each other.
yeah, I know her from my Kansas thread- she isn't too far from me. I haven't seen her on in a while. I didn't know she has silkies! I'll ask her...

It seems like I may have. Whatever it is, it sure is cute! I have had a partridge chick from a hatchery before and it was alot darker in color. Will this one be a lighter part. or a blue part.?
It is a blue partridge.
Any idea what the percentage of colors I will get if bred to a blue...

I,too, just got my first nice silkies. They just hatched so I will probably breed them next fall. I have bbs and whites from Mary Robbins.
Mary says that you may hatch out partridge from her BBS eggs. Did you? I got one partridge out of the eleven chicks I hatched.
It seems like I may...

Here is a chick that I hatched from Mary Robbins. I thought it was splash when it hatched, but now its looking like a partridge of some sort. Any ideas...?
Below: The chick in question with what I believe is a splash chick.

Sorry to hear that.
Where was her body, near the fence? I know raccoons will decapitate birds and leave the bodies (had that happen before), but in the day time??
Weasels and minks will do the same thing. The raccoons around my place have only taken the whole brids and left nothing...
One other thing...I have 2 chicks that I believe are black. They both have white markings on their wingtips, butts, and beards & chests. I'm guessing its a 'black' thing since my black australorps had white markings on them when they were little.
