Silkies are strictly for cuteness. I have some that are coming up on 5 months old. My hatch is 7 boys and 3 girls. Aside from male hair pulling, so far so good. I hope they all accept their lot in life so that they can stay together.. I do love the roos.
Well I know that silkies come in different sizes. The girls are smaller most of the time. I have a runtish hen right now but she was sick as a chick and required tube feedings. It may have been cocci, I don't know.
At 4.5 months, I have 3 known females and 5 known males. There are 2 I can't decide on. One especially because the top roo grabs the girls and makes them scream and he did it to this one. The other one is a big black silkie, so it's probably male, but I'm not willing to decide yet. Hmmm.
Adorkable is right. I think the crumbles are too big and then it looks like they're eating but they are not. They're just hungry..For new chicks I have learned to grind up the crumbles. I do that for about 2 weeks.

That would be nice if that second to last one is a girl. Right now I'm sure of 7/10 being roos. At 4months old.
Sorry about all the chickens lost to raccoons. How sad.
