Brody's Broodello : Quote: You want to have the three main toes fully feathered. Feathers on the other two are a nice bonus. Bare middle toe is a serious defect. Correction, the middle toe should be fully feathered on the outside only. So I'm overzealous with my toe feathers! From the APA...

Quote: Not familiar with the seller, but the feedback is really good. I say go for it! I bought my cuckoo & black silkie eggs from her. Great wrapping, they made it to NY no problem. Most of the chicks are black, and two cuckoo, but I was supposed to have both black & cuckoo, so that's ok...

Quote: I believe you breed buff to lavender, then take those offspring and breed back to lavender. That is not how you get porcelain, actually. We (silkie breeders) need to be more cognizant of the terminology we use that already has definitions set forth in the standard because it makes us...

Quote: I believe you breed buff to lavender, then take those offspring and breed back to lavender. Ok, thanks for the info. So then after you breed back to the lavendar, and its "considered" a porcelain, if it looks correct, do they then breed true, or do you have to keep repeating the steps...

Quote: Ok, I bought a bunch of eggs and got about 7 chicks to hatch. All where dark in color. They are a year old and spent the winter laying and hatching eggs. The parents I have are blue, blue splash, black and the roo is black with white on his head to his shoulders. Looks like paint was...

Quote: HaHa... I'm sure they can get wet, but for an inexperienced chicken owner whom might not know any better, a chicken can get chilled or even drown in the rain if they aren't put up. I experienced this personally and lost "several" chicks this week. I think making sure they're securely...

Quote: The only hindrance I've noticed is that they can't see birds of prey coming from above. Because of that we put netting over their pens to keep them safe. Ours go up the ramp fine, do like to play in the rain, but that's ok. They do go in their coops at dark except the occasional newly...

I breed BBS, not pure black in silkies. That's a LOT of silver leakage. So the easiest way to test if he's a split would be to breed him to a pure lav girl.
