    My first thought for another option to protect a bee hive from ants is the use of food grade diatomaceous earth (DE); then I wondered if it would harm the honey bees. After quick internet research, it may work if you take proper precautions to protect your bees, I.e., don't create a "cloud,"...

    The latest book (a Christmas gift) I received on honeybees is "Song of Increase" by Jacqueline Freeman. I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.

    Our bees did not survive over the winter, but there have been honeybees all over the small pieces of old honeycomb that we cleaned out of the hive box. We believe these honeybees are either from the first year we had bees and ended up with an empty hive (swarmed or just found a new home???) or...

    Not directed to me, but we created a "lasagna garden" in the fall and broadcast native wildflower seeds into it. We are continually enlarging the area by suffocation of the lawn around the wildflowers and letting those wildflowers drop their seeds. I plan to attend a seminar on Successful...
