They get some pollen but mostly packed honey. The door gives them faster access to the upper part of the hive and thus they draw out the comb and unload honey more quickly as well.

Hey guys... Do to this Summer's Nectar Dearth here in NC. I experienced hard core Robbing attacks a few months ago destroying one of my hives and wounding the other. The one hive which was destroyed and had lost it queen too , which lead to Chill brood and collapse, had all the workers quit...

last evening I came home and added a medium super to my hive with a queen separater. I figure I will relieve some crowding in the hive and give them a chance at an early start on drawing out the comb in the medium. They were pretty aggressive as expected for having their hives opened for the 1st...

A few things about this "On Tap Hive".... The add alone tells you these guys have no problem morally deceiving folks and selling them a dream. The add is rife with BS targeted only to get the new bee keeper wanna be's money... Those who have kept bees for longer than a year can see clearly...

Thanks I designed that logo myself... Also, Today is Feb 9th On warmer days my bees are flying about now in pretty large numbers. so, I think this whole fondant thing is academic, at this point in the year, for a hive this strong. It was 57f outside when I took this picture.

This weekend I tried to make my own fondant bee food… The stuff came out like thick golden syrup. So, I reheated it to 245 and let it steam off for 20 minutes… This time it cooled to a super thick golden glue that made the Labreah Tar Pits look arid… So, being “clever” I added in tons of corn...

What I really liked was the explanation that went with it: The Explanation of the Rules! Work with the bees when they are content, when the weather is fine 1. Work your hives only on “Blue Bird Sky” Days. Honey Bees are Happiest when they are able to bring in food for their colony. Any...

I red this online and thought it was very accurate: List of Beekeeping Rules! Three basic facts about getting stung? 1. If you keep bees, you WILL get stung... 2. Bees suffer and die if they sting you. (Remember: stinging you is far down a bee's priority list.) 3. If you get stung, you are the...
