Well, I did it. In my car right now are two complete 8 frame medium hives. I got 3 supers per hive that were preassembled, to get me rolling, and 3 more per hive to put together as needed, so I have 6 supers per hive, plus some odds and ends, like feeders and tools and such, as well as...
Well, I make an annual trip to Staunton, VA in March, and I randomly learned there is a beekeeper's equipment shop not far from my conference. I'm planning to go pick up 2 triple medium 8 frame hives and some extra supers to haul home. I've recently learned a friend's father keeps a lot of bees...
It's just a Mann Lake cotton/poly. I was going to order from Mann Lake directly, but I had an Amazon gift card and Amazon points, so I paid nothing for it. If this ends up being something I get really into, I will upgrade to an Ultrabreeze. But to get started, this will be fine.
Thank you for the condolences. It has been a difficult time in our lives.
I will check into Snyders...I know where he is, approximately, and it's not too far away.
This is what I am hearing elsewhere too. Sigh.
I don't know if I'll go for it...guess I'd better decide soon.
Well, I lost the baby (another boy) in a late miscarriage :( and in an effort to make me interested in...well....life again, I'm revisiting the idea of bees. Is it too late to order packages? I am thinking of messaging an apiary a couple hours north of me and asking if he will have extra...
Got a smoker for Christmas! Next, a suit or jacket -- I want an Ultrabreeze because working outside in the afternoons here can be an invitation to heatstroke while wearing a T shirt and shorts -- and a few other things. But I might put it off a year...just learned I'm very unexpectedly pregnant...
Ok, if one lives in an area where the biggest and most reliable nectar flow begins around April 15 and ends approximately June 1-10, when should the bees arrive? It seems like, based on egg development times, that the bees need to be installed in early March and fed to produce workers in order...
I have a general OK to go ahead from DH....he says it will either be bees or goats, and at least bees don't need a fence. Maybe eventually the bees could help pay for the goats.
I don't think he quite realizes I need to buy some gear, and I should consider buying stock in a sugar company to get...
I'm really thinking about bees for next spring too. Been reading, bought 2 books on top bar hives, read, read, read. I stay up reading bee forums now, lol.
My issue is the local beekeeper clubs' meeting all overlap with swim team and work, so I can't get to any and get networking :( So I am...
