Hello NevadaRon,
Sorry, it took so long to answer. They can produce a new queen, but mistook the activity that I saw in the hive, and they must have not successfully reared a new queen. She was two years old. The Bee Inspector said that he suggests requeening each year to prevent this...
I lost my colony at the end of last summer. The inspector said that likely the queen died. I had the hive for two summers, so it was a real shame. Got to get a new package in the spring, try , try again!
My girls were out today, what relief! I've lost ALOT, but when I tap there's buzzing and I saw the queen a month ago on that one really warm day. Here's looking forward to spring. I'll be looking to make some changes/improvements this year, but I will probably one have one hive again.
I've been told that cd cases with some peanut butter in them laid on the top of the frames will attract them. Throw the case into a bucket of water, repeat...not that that helps much now. Good luck.
My girls were all over the outside of the hive yesterday...it was stinkin' hot. I've got the telescoping lid propped up a bit so that they get better ventilation. They went back in after it cooled off.
Well, they kind of pile up at the door a little bit. I'll have to check on them, I've got 1 deep w/10 frames and another deep w/10 to go on top. They sure are busy!

Good luck! Are you getting a package? I had a tough time getting the syrup can out of the box. I finally went out and put my other five frames in. There was a piece of comb that they had built out too far...it fell off and landed on the bottom, I guess they will recycle it? Ms...
Sorry to hear about that. My wax foundation came with vertical wires embedded already. If you can get an embedder, that would probably work better. I hope that you have good luck with it. Mine were in for a week with only half the frames, so maybe you have time to embed the wire in the other...

If you leave frames out for a week, don't be surprised if the bees build comb in any spaces that they can fit it in.
A friend just had this happen in two or three days with a package he put in and left out some frames. If a package is getting sugar syrup or nectar they will start...

For my package, we are leaving the box in for a week with half the frames and then when we remove the box, we can put the rest of the frames back in.
I had one honey bee in my house, but other than that, all the bees on the apples tree blossoms were different kinds. I am hoping to have 2-3 hives next year, if I can keep my first one healthy through the winter.
