Julie, That was fascinating! The bees that are interacting with her as she's hatching...do you think there is some purpose, or are they just bumping into her randomly?
We had hoped to begin beekeeping this year but are getting a late start because we had friends flooded out in storms some weeks ago and that put everything else in life on hold. We have finally got our top bar hive in place, but now I'm finding that bee packages are sold out everywhere I look...
Check on craigslist in your area see if local beekeepers who advertise swarm removal. Also check Florida beekeepers association for local contact. A beekeeper would love the swarm!
Thanks for the quick response! Let me try another question. ..in looking at bee suits, I see some with a sort of built-in safari style hat and veil and others that just have a sort of curved hood, with no apparent built in hat. Do you have an opinion on suit styles?
Hi I am in the info gathering stage of my beekeeping journey! I hope to place my hive (s) out near my chicken coop which is a converted 4 stall horse stable. I see many carpenter bees around the coop/stable and wonder if they present a problem for honeybees. Thanks in advance for any info!
