No, the feathers are stained. Just the tops. Even my white quail that are off the ground.
Miss Turkey runs to the side to stand in the sprinkler when we water the grass. Even when it's not hot.
She's only white in the winter.
Speaking of misters. I've always turned mine on once it reaches 103.
My questions is. Why does the water turn my white birds brown?
I have quail and a Royal Palm Turkey. She hangs with the chickens. But now she she looks so dirty and so do the quail.
I've had this happen to the quail out in...
I don't think so. It's the leg. You can tell it's swollen. Was just fine yesterday. There are no sores on the bottom of the foot. The area is really dry, no standing water at all.
1 of my chickens has a lame leg. Not sure how old she is, she was given to me. They said she was 10 months which would make her a year now. I've never seen her in the nest. Anyway, 1 leg is swollen and she limps. Is there anything, withing reason, I can do? or should I plan on the stewing pot...
Hard. I took pics, it looks yellow, but it was an ivory color.
I placed the bic pen so you could see the size. Not a small thing to come out of the egg.
Question: I found a blob of what looked like a piece of chalk inside an egg..... in the white.... Like a pearl in an oyster. The egg was fine otherwise.
Was it calcium? or something else. If it was calcium, am I giving the chickens to much? or was it just something that happens?
When I looked in the nesting box today all I could say was "Holy Crap!" There were the 5 eggs, 2 blue small ones from the young chicks, 1 blue and 1 brown med eggs from the older gals. This was normal.... but then there was this big giant brown thing sitting in there! It's 3.0 oz! my RSL went...
That is a very good idea! I toss marigolds in there, I planted them by their other place, but they pulled them up and ate the whole plant. They love basil and cilantro too.
Just put my 6 girls in their new area. I was afraid that the older girls would pick on the new ones. So once the babies I got in Nov had feathers, I put them in their own little coop (another commercial one) with the heat lamp because it was still cold at night, then we had that awful cold in...
Interesting dilemma. I was told that in Mesa, if you are in a UR or horse property you can have as many as you want, but in other areas you can only have up to 10, then they are considered pets, more than that they are considered farm animals. Maybe that is the way it is there and maybe that is...
I remember how excited I was when I got my first egg........... I still get a thrill and talk to my girls and thank them........ Hubby already told me that when they are to old to lay, that's just to bad, they are officially pets...... not for the stew pot.... :)
My Mother once told me "be careful what you wish for, You might get it"
Then on here, while I was complaining about the lack of layers.. I have 2 RSL and 1 Amuricana.
My Granddaughter talked me into 3 more Americana chicks last Oct.
So...... anyway....... someone on here told me to "be careful...
On Christmas Morning, I was blessed with my 1st Blue Egg.... although it's more mint green than blue. So out of the 3, I now have 2 layers. 1 Ameraucanas and 1 RSL, the other RSL hasn't produced yet. It's small, but 1.8oz was a good size for a 1st I think. her last 3 were the same size too. The...
This is the chart I use. I like your method. I'm still using store bought for cooking, because oh my...... nothing beats the taste of a fried, "almost" orange creamy yoke freshly laid.
My GD has fun weighing them on the postal scale, writing the weight on them and candling. Guess my 1 layer is...
Thank you both on your great feedback. This week we are tuning off the lamp in the garage and opening the door during the day. Then this weekend we will set their coop next to the big chickens coop so they can see each other but not peck at the little ones. We'll turn the heat lamp on at night...
Are these fully feathered yet?
DH wants his garage back. They said they were 1 week old when we got them. that's the 1st pic.
So that would make them just 4 weeks old now. They seem a little bigger than 4 weeks to me.
Hope you can tell by the last 2 pics if it's ok to put them outside yet.
I...
He will get used to it. We all do. I'm born AZ, but DH was AirForce. We moved from here to Guam and the the maids in motel thought I was nuts for turning the AC off. Then we moved to CO where they had record wind chills that first year..... -50°, then to some other placed with same temps, then...
Yup.......... Finally......... Still have 2 little missies the same age that haven't laid. I know for sure which one did because she now squats when I tough her back. But all 3 are the same age...... so soon........ Told DH they were now safe from his Smoker....... :)
