Yes. As far as I've read they say any flock that tests positive it completely destroyed to try and prevent further spread. But at the same time they think it's being spread by wild birds...not really sure how they plan to contain that scenario.
According to the need out here there was a backyard flock that tested positive in Juneau, Wisconsin this past week. The other cases here were all large egg farms.
I'm sure some is a bit hyped, but Iowa is already over 5 million chickens, Wisconsin is approaching 1 million, and Minnesota is a down a few million turkeys. As far as I know here its mostly large egg producing farms being hit, but apparently there has been one backyard flock that tested...
I would be very careful right now with getting any birds from the Midwest. I hope you find what you're looking for, but right now a lot of places are going on lock down with the bird flu on the go.
I wouldn't take them just yet. If they hatch within the day she may not leave. I have a buff orp hen that sits pretty still the entire first week. I'd give her a chance to let them all hatch.
Welcome WashingtonWino glad you're enjoying you're aussie :)
You are correct: they do lay a large light brown egg. It could be anywhere from 18-22 weeks and don't be surprised if they start out a little smaller. Sometimes pullet eggs start small and start to get larger once they've really...
I know this is off topic, but Hellbender...I can never get over your avatar. I can't stop laughing at it. I can't explain it...usually I can get over something, but it's just so hideous and funny to me.
I use safeguard liquid wormer for goats. So far no worms :) I don't recommend any wormers that go in the water as it is too difficult to judge if they're getting enough to be effective. Beyond that I would say valbazen is your best bet.
There's quite a few simple patterns out there otherwise Louise country closet has saddles with and without wing covers for a decent price. And they're pretty good about getting it shipped in a convenient time frame.
They are quite the characters. Yesterday we had a snow storm whip through and they were under that trailer with the ducks, and a few buffs...not one would go to the coop. The coop is right next door mind you. I had to dig a new path and they all just walked inside single file. They are too...
