They will fuss a hawk too. Not as effectively as crows, but yep.

This is the page that gave me the hints I'm going to use first. https://www.wikihow.com/Attract-Crows I've got lots of trees for roosting and nesting, I haven't got noisemakers out or the shiny things they say deters hawks. Bah, I even laced the top of my run last time and the damn things got in.

Sure thing. Watched a couple chase away a couple of vultures earlier today. I'm going to buy some plain peanuts next time I go to town. I think I have a small Christmas tree dealy I can convert to a feeder. I'm going to give it a shot.

Ah rats! and here I was looking forward to seeing it. I think I'm going to set up a feeding station for crows around my big Pecan trees. I've got two of them, over looking the run from two corners. If I can get a murder to set up house, that would keep the redtails away.

    Australorps breed Thread

Yep, saw one take my last BO years ago. So I might set up a small area that is netted on top. Or figure out how to run the hot wire over it. Now that would be a show. One of the redtails getting zapped lol.

I'm going to try for a heavier, sometimes broody multi colored layer flock. I want the cockerels to put on enough size to be good in the pot, and lots of colors for selling at the farmer's market and swap meet. No one around here does that. So basically, an Australorp that lays colors. Cammo...

Don't know what I'm gonna do about the paddock. I'm going to build a hoop coop chicken powered composter attached to the 16x24 coop so they will have that secure place. But I'll have about 1200 sq ft with 6ft chain link and hot wire. I might have to add a fenced area so I can net it. They can...

I'm spending probably a couple K on coop/greenhouse, then will have to see how much I have left to spend on pricey birds lol. Picked up a breeding trio of Golden Cuckoo Marans today. Fairly cheap too, $36 for the trio.

I think he was active the last time I had chickies. Between a racoon, a fox and a hawk, my last flock was wiped out. I'm building a freakin' Ft. Knox this time.

Yikes! $30 a dozen, $25 shipping. I think I'll try Valley Farms Chicks. If I don't like them, I can sell them and find an incubator for next year. After all, there is always next year right?

Wait a minute, you said BLUE AUSTRALORP? I've been out of chicken keeping about 6 yrs, but a Blue? Crap. lol I love Australorps, now I'm gonna have to see about Blues. It was so easy when it was just the Blacks.

I've never heard of the True Blues. I'm not going to show, just for my personal flock. If I could get them to breed true, might be a niche for them.

I'm getting some EE's to start with because my grandkids are waiting lol. I'm looking for a good Ameraucana roo or straight run. Not many around my area.

I'm going to be working toward a heavier flock of EE's with broodiness. I love EE's, but to me they are flighty and a little light to be good in the pot. I want a colorful egg basket but heritage attributes. I'm figuring the BA's and Buffs will be a good foundation for that.

Thanks for the offer. I've got Australorps, Buffs and Barred Rocks growing up. Surely I'll get one or two from that bunch.
