    Thanks! I got them a bit mixed up. The California grey was produced by crossing Barred Rocks and White Leghorns then selecting out.

    I think a california white is Barred Rock x White Leghorn. Austra-whites are specific to Australorp x White Leghorn crosses. Definitely want the White Leghorn variety from a hatchery - they are the ones best selected for egg production. Other varieties are not as well selected for egg laying.

    Yep Yep, easy to tell as adults but I wasn't sure how splash look as chicks. I've had blue and I have had an austrawhite looking hen that was single gene dominant white over black like the Austra white. I wasn't sure what splash looks like as day olds compared to the austra white.
