Thanks! We got her at a feed store, so probably a hatchery bird. She's the friendliest, best layer we have, so no complaints here. Her size is pretty impressive though. They had JGs too, so I thought maybe we had gotten one of those instead, but there's no yellow at all on her feet.

Well, I think the color is a little off in the pic, making the darker one look even darker, but I was a little surprised at the color too. None of my other ones lay that dark. She's got 2 hatch mates that have yet to lay, so we'll see if they all lay dark eggs.

Thank you for the reply! What about the black that looks like it starts on the beak and extends up through her comb? The other two ladies had combs that went from yellow to pink, and the one on the far right- yellow to black. I'm not worried about aesthetics as much as I just want her healthy...
