So I've got these to Australorp chicks I'm raising (the bottom one is an Australorp X) and I was wondering if I got the sexes right. I'm thinking first one is a pullet and the 2nd one a rooster? They are both a little over 2 months old thinking of putting them up for sale so want to make sure I...
Once they reached about a month old she started pecking their heads anytime they got near her. So I figured she was done with them and whenever I let the others out to free range she kept wanting to go with them. I tried letting them all out to free range but she left the babies behind.
Until...
Yup tried her with another hen that was broody and she started beating her up, tried a different hen and she ran and screamed the entire time then started slamming herself into the pen walls.
I had her in a lower area inside the coop just blocked off, they could all see her and the babies the...
Don't post a lot but I need some help with one of my hens. I let her go broody and raise a clutch of babies and when she decided she had enough of the babies I removed her and added her back to the flock, BAD idea. My problem is she now submits to EVERYONE she squats and when they attack her she...
Thanks for the welcome and at the moment I'm not setup for hatching eggs as I'm just getting started in the chicken world but hope to be setup for them one day soon. :)
I also didn't know that they were really rare, I've seen some pictures online and just thought they would be some beautiful...
Hello, everyone I've not posted in awhile but have been reading a lot as I learn about the Australorp chickens. Right now I have 6 black Australorp girls and would like to add 4 more girls, prefer the blues, so I was wondering if anyone in Indiana has chicks for sale? If so could you message me?
Cool thanks and I was only saying at least one could be a boy as that's what someone told me so that's why I was posting here to make sure from people that know the breed.
I edited the first post with the ages in there they are 7 weeks old but you must've missed it. :)
Yes I bought all pullets and it would be awesome if they really are all girls. :)
A few pics of my chicks from today, yes some are dups but trying to get good angles of all. I'm thinking there's at least 2 boys in there...what do you guys think? If so the boys will more the likely be looking for new homes. Edited cause I forgot to say they are 7 weeks old...lol
Here's a few pictures of "my girls" (at least I hope they all are...lol)
They are a little over 4 weeks old...so how old do they have to be before you'll know for sure if they are pullets or roos?
Well that's strange as that means I've got all roosters and they were sexed at being pullets when I bought my 6. Which are now at 3 weeks mine have about the same amount of comb.
Ok I'll try that most times I'm picking them up is to clean their box or let them roam around the room a bit but I have some that as soon as I pick them up they squawk until I put my hand down where they can get down again. The quiet ones I hold for just a bit longer as they generally won't step...
Hello everyone, I've got my first chicks and choose the Australorp as my first chickens. I've got a few questions:
The picture below is when I first brought them home from TSC and they are a bit flighty still I handle them a little bit every evening when I get home from work but so far they all...
