i have to agree with Ron on this one goto a feed store next spring & buy a mix(breeds) of birds this way they can grow up as a flock....& welcome to BYC....
Have observed anytime gov. Sticks it's nose into anybody else's business it never turns out good...we are very happy out here..in sticksville usa..enjoy your new coop & flock
Mrs.B....Leghorn chickens are the industry leader for egg production. ..if you're interested in a duel purpose (eggs &meat) bird go with black Australorp or road island red
Basing my experience off my flock they...started trying to mate pretty young (unsuccessful) at firts at around 20 weeks old I've seen some online talk about as early as 18 weeks i didn't get fertile eggs till a few weeks later...hope that helps
