Just trying to get this straight in my mind, you did not want the rooster to eat "layer feed'? No judgment, just curious, I know we all do things for our birds normal people find "different".

WOW,, You must have lots of spare time to be able to record all this! My record keeping on eggs is, "well, they laid some......." The only time I have an idea what and who is doing what is hatching time when I keep track of which breed lays and how many a day. I need to become more...

Yeppers, it will come back as pretty and shimmering as ever. The karma deal hits them hard, when they look so good for 9-10 months. Karma dictates they look so bad for a couple.. This is Blackie, my prize BA!

Welcome to BYC! It will be hard to tell at that age for me. But if 5 have little tails and one does not, it could mean 4 boys......sorry... Turk you will love having australorps. I use mine is many of the weird mixes I try. They are extremely hardy for me, with the...

I know some of you will disagree with this, those charts are great over 90% of the time and if there was only 1 gene on one loci that controlled color they would be 100%. That is not the case, things happen, genes mutate, a controlling gene can be damaged and so on. Point in case, I had a...

I know her intentions are good, but do you think it keeps them warmer or colder? How can they "fluff" their feathers to control their temps when they are wearing something that holds their feathers down? And what happens when the chicken gains a couple ounces and needs a new sweater...

I think your right on more predators in town than in the country. As more homes are built less hunting, or trapping occurs. The predators soon learn the "people" will not hurt them so they have young in places they would never have them in the country. The more people in town have pets...

I wish you well. I have tried making a pea combed Australorp, it went fine until f4 when all the combs turned back to single combs. In my case when they started to look like Australorps (body wise and size wise) they gained the comb. I wonder if color would do the same thing. Good luck...

Inbreeding is not a problem in chickens, as long as you look for and cull the weak, as a matter of fact line breeding and inbreeding is the way traits are cemented. This is not like marrying your sister/brother. That said diversity is nice when possible, but breeds are not always that diverse...
