So I wont actually know what ones have the gene till they give me lav babies?

I have been doing a little bit of reading. From what I understand if I pair my lav roo with my black hen I will get 50% black and 50% 'splits' then if I pair my lav roo with the split hens I will get 25% lavs. My question is what exactly does a split look like?

It looks like a pullet to me. Orpington hens seem to have fairly large red combs compared to other breeds. Thats just from what I've seen in mine.

Ok so basically sell off the blue chicks as layers or something and keep the black ones for breeding next year?

Can anyone tell me what I might get for chicks if I breed a lavender rooster with this sweet blue hen?
